Cannot Configure
« on: November 29, 2005, 07:34:43 am »
Hey everyone,

Just now trying to set up Planeshift, after a small issue with trying to update (having to switch to the recover console) I am unable to configure my setup to play.

Date: 11/28/05
CPU: AMD XP 1900
GFX: GF2
RAM: 736mb ddr
Version: 0.3.012
OS: Windows XP pro SP2

It gives me an error for the pssetup.exe file.

Any ideas?

Thanks

~Jason

Your system seems to be able to launch the game without problem... is pssetup the only thing that crashes, or it crashes when launching the game, too?

You could try moving the psconfig.exe that you\'ll find on your planeshift folder to another one, and then launching the update process again, so it catches a new file, and hopefully that one won\'t give you as much trouble and you\'ll be able to properly setup the game, that is, turn off sound to prevent random crashes to happen :)

I tried deleting the file and rerunning the updater, it said it was unable to delete a file but was able to do the update. I also am not able to run the normal updater and have to use the recover mode. Here are some screen\'s I took.

Thanks again.

If you weren\'t able to delete the psconfig file it\'s because it was in use, so perhaps you\'d check before deleting it if there\'s an instance of pssetup running (ctrl+alt+supr will prompt the task manager and there you\'ll see if the process is running or not)
Those screens you attached don\'t provide much information, try the next time posting the content of updater.txt.

Alright so I tried to get more information for you guys to work with and this is what I found.

When trying to run set up it gave me an error and I clicked on \"more information\" this is what came up:

http://oplink.net/~jclark/planeshift3.JPG

When trying to run the actual game it gave an error and created a dump file. Here is that dump file:

http://oplink.net/~jclark/PlaneShift_Version_Dec%2002%202005_Addr7C342969.dmp

If you guys can tell me where I might find other error information to give you let me know.

Thanks

Did you try to update again? The game had little updates recently, perhaps you\'ll find that your problems get solved with one of those.
Anyway, the errors you\'re capturing always are the ones that windows generates, it would have been more useful if you had made the capture or the report of the error that the application gives you, that, looking at the dump file you sent must be 7c342969, which I\'ve been unable to find.
So try updating in recover mode again, and see if you can launch the game, if not, perhaps a dev can take a look at that dump and see what could happen.

Alright, I tried reupdating, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I updated again got all new files and I still can\'t run the configure program. I don\'t know where or if there is a file created when this error occurs but nothing seems to be fixing the problem. I checked the MD5sum to make sure that it did indeed download the correct file and that came out fine.

Any ideas?

For some people updating graphic card drivers has been seen as a fix for problems. Have you checked you drivers and possibly updated them? For GF2 it should be easy to find drivers: http://www/nvidia.com
