I\'m considering the same, but since we\'re only a few months out from SuSE 10.1, I was thinking I\'d wait until then.

I\'m running SUSE 10.0 here, the only issues I\'ve found is with sound, so get used to running alsaconf whenever it stops working (for me, that\'s every reboot).

Also, as yet I haven\'t been able to get PS to work. Problem after problem. The closest I\'ve gotten is being told I\'ve got the incorrect version compared to the server, though this wasn\'t the case.

I\'m going to give it a few more hours, then I\'m going to give up.

I\'m hoping that 10.1 will fix the sound and by that time PS will have an installer that \'just works\' without the need for patches over old releases and updates that seem to do more harm than good.

So, if it\'s working with 9.3, stick with it, and upgrade in March 2005 to 10.1

PebblyMan, welcome to my world :).  I spend a lot of time putting out fires and trying to get things to work.  It all works out in then end but can be trying at times.

If you have specific problems I can try to help you on those.

Ok, quick update - I got the game to work, though since this was a mess since I was going over the same steps multiple times and doing dangerous things (chmod 777!!) I have no real idea exactly *what* I did that finally made the game work. All I can say is, do what the Linux install steps say (ie install the slightly old version, the both patches) and also do \'stuff\' and if that doesn\'t work, try some \'things\' but yes, it is possilbe to get it to work.

And then I did something bad. I rebooted...

./pssetup now gives:

planeshift.setup.application:
  Warning: Loading \'data/config/setupwindow.xml\' failed!
  Warning: Loading \'data/config/skinwindow.xml\' failed!
  Warning: Loading \'data/gui/ok.xml\' failed!
Warning: Some PAWS widgets failed to load

while ./psclient gives:

/home/pebblyman/games/planeshift/psclient.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libcal3d.so.11: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So, if anyone has any suggestions, otherwise I\'m going to try and work it out and will post results.

I\'d really love either of the following:

1. A Linux install that is the current version (to avoid these issues)
2. A \'howto\' guide for the main distos outlining the exact steps required to get PS to work for your distro - including all the weird things you need to do to actually get it to work.

Once I get everything working, I may be moving to a snapshot (alpha release) of SUSE 10.1, so I may be able to do the second one (if I can actually get it to work with my not-so-great linux skills).

Ok, we\'re back online!

The steps I took were a basic re-install:

1. Re-installed PlaneShift_CBV0.3.011.linux.x86-2.run

2. Re-applied PlaneShift_CBV0.3.012P-r2.i686.bin

3. Re-copied psclient.bin  pssetup.bin  updater.bin (present in the PlaneShift-CBV0.3.0.12-r4-i686.tar.bz2 file)

4. Re-ran the updater (this took a long time)

5. Ran ./pssetup

6. Launched the app from the setup

Hopefully, this stays working!!

Was playing ok, then the app died with this error:

psclient.bin: coreanimation.cpp:240: void CalCoreAnimation::getPose(float, std::vector >&) const: Assertion `time >= 0.0f && \"time must be > 0\"\' failed.

Attempting to run the app again, it dies when I\'m just about to enter the game (after connecting to the server and selecting my char).

Same error as above...

Hopefully this is one of those \'Works fine tomorrow\' things...

If anyone was wondering, this was indeed one of those \'Works fine tomorrow\' things...
