Unusal crashes
« on: November 29, 2005, 09:55:55 pm »
the problem i am having is this;

whenever i change areas to or from the DR or arena my client crashed and i get a notice box.

the problem is that this box appears behind the main ps window which blocks my view, preventing me from saving the diagnostic file or form viewing what i assume is an exception error.

the only way i can exit the client after this is too use the taskmanager to terminate psclient.exe\'s process tree.
this happens every time i exit the DR  or enter the arena area so it cant be a coincidence.

is anyone else having simmilar problems?  does anyone know how to fix it?

im runnig the fully up-to-date version of PS, on windows Xp SP2 on a machine which exceeds the minimum system requirements for PS.(will give more detailed info if asked)

this problem only seems to have occured in the last few days and since there hasnt been an update i dont know why.  i havent chaned any of the setup since i started playing the game, about 2 months ago

addition: have updated to all the new files made avalible earlier today but this makes very little difference the exiting the DR crash has been fixed but the client still crashes when i enter the arena

please help

Is your sound turned off? Perhaps between the transition there\'s a music change that crashes your client.
Also, if you\'ve never been able to enter the Arena, try to tell a GM to teleport you there and see if the map loads; if it doesn\'t you can have a corrupted map for the arena, simply delete the Arena map from your planeshift directory and run the updater so it catches a new one. (map is inside art/world/arena.zip)

thanks for the reply Nilrem but this doesnt work,  i doubt the arena map is corrupted since as soon as i restart my client i can enter the arena without any problems.  nor do i believe its a problem with the sound since like i said this problem only started recently and the sound options i have slected have not changed.

does anyone else have an idea?

if you could even give me some idea as to how to save he crash dump without being able to access the confirm box i could at least post that to let the devs have a look at it.

thanks anyway

addition: this has also been happening but i didnt think to report it until now.  when i start up the PSclient i get a command box which says something allong the lines of;

\"cannot find pulgin crystral.sndsys.manager\"

it displays and then dissapears really fast so this may not be the exact message but i think its close enough

could this be part of the problem?

p.s. sorry for puting this on as another post i ment to edit it onto the end of my last one i just pressed the wrong button lol

Addition: i amunable to upload the dump file at this time but i know know the access violation address is 6FD33CF8 dont know if this will be of any help or not but i hope so.  where can i upload the dump files to?

In this thread: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=20116&boardid=33
there was the exact same report number as your crash.
It was sound related, or at least turning off sound worked for that person (that number seems to be one of the known sound issues that were happening not so long ago) so I think the most common sense workaround is that you disable sound while playing, that if you don\'t want to rejoin again everytime you change maps (as it seems that rejoining and loading the map from scratch seems to work for you) there was some intended work with those sound issues, unfortunately seem that they didn\'t dissapear completely, I guess you\'ll have to have some patience and play the game without its background music (you can always have another player of your choice playing music on the background)

thanks Nilrem i only noticed this thread once i had the number, i had hoped the updated sound.dll might have fixed this problem but that doesnt seem to be the case (at least not entirley)
