trouble with updating (cvs and "installer releases")
« on: December 01, 2005, 07:16:02 am »
as the title says, I\'ve bee having trouble.

I haven\'t been on PS in a few weeks, so I figured I\'d update and get online.  The update ran, tried running client, was told the whole \"wrong client\" thing.  hit the forums, saw all the stuff about linux not working and to try cvs.  So, to be safe of no \"overwritten garbage\" from the binary installer and cvs, I uninstalled the binary package, and made sure to reemerge (gentoo system) cel and crystalspace.  I gave it a shot, and the files run...just not well.  There\'s no graphics displayed for the updater or setup windows.  So I waited it out and then I installed xordan\'s new files, and I got the same problem.  Here\'s a screenshot:

if I drag the window off screen and drag it back up/around, I get the classic X11 \"can\'t draw window so I\'ll freeze frame the other windows\" over it effect...sort of.  It just jags the window\'s contents around a little.

I read the post under xordan posting the new fixes, and figured it might of been the openal problem.  I deleted those libraries, made sure I had the absolute most recent openal from gentoo, and got nothing new.  Same window drawing error.

To note, the mouse actually was drawing over the window for the CVS version, but it doesn\'t for the xordan fixes.

Am I completely missing some step, or am I seeing a bug?...

It seems that You are missing art files (or You have cvs version of art).
If You still have previous installers, extract art from them. If not - run updater in command line mode:
./updater --auto
"Close the world, txEn eht nepO."

ah, I forgot to mention that i had tried that and I kept getting connection errors.  I completely forgot to keep trying.

I\'m running it now and it was able to connect.  I\'ll post again when it\'s done as to whether problems persist or not.  Thanks for reminding me!

I haven\'t tried getting in game yet (gentoo\'s emerging all new KDE apps...and it\'s taking forever...), but the updater and setup are working again.

I\'m still having a \"stutter\" problem though, and I\'ve been trying to figure out the exact cause for some time now but it\'s pretty difficult.
