I have to say that the way out is EASY to find IF you can see.  That was my problem, I didn\'t know my monitor was so dark (and I have brightness and contrast at 100%).  So, with gamma adjustment I found my way out no problem.  Then I later found that the --fullbright parameter works just as well.

But without those things, it IS COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE to find your way out.  It\'s basically like walking around in the complete dark, only seeing your legs move but not the ground beneath you... so you\'re not even sure if you\'re walking or stuck against a wall!

Anyway, I just thought I should add this comment here to all you people that must have thought I was an idiot for not finding my way out for so long.

Reminder to self - time to buy new LCD monitor and throw out my current old dark CRT.

Imagonnahafta disagree with you there. The Death Realm is rediculously hard to navigate even when you can see.

First time I died, I thought I would never come out, so I made another char, then I died again, so I made another one, and then another one etc. etc.

It took me about fifteen minutes to go out of DM the first time, without asking anything more that how to get out of the \"bottom\" of it in the advisory channel.

I\'m very suprised people can\'t get out of it...  :D

Hey,

I started playing the game two days ago, and I think it\'s great .... But the Death Realms suck. I was almost out when I fell somewhere really deep, and now I can\'t see a thing and I can\'t even spawn back to the starting point in DR. If I was able to get back there I am confident I would find my way out. Down in the dark place I met a bunch of confused players, who just had enough of the DR, and _none_ were able to help me. So my suggestion: Take the dark, deep place away/ put in a few extra lights (Only down there, I think the rest od DR is OK) / let the player spawn back to the beginning by typing /die. Now I just remain there if I type it. Oh, and the biggest joke of all is that I didn\'t get in the DR by dying. I was out in the wilderness after Ojaveda, when the server crashed and when I reconnected half an hour later, I found myself in the deathrealms. Dunno why that happened, I huess it is part of playing with an alpha wersion ;)

And someone go down there and _help us_ we need guidance, and none of the experienced players go down  in the deep.

Well, returning from dead is hardly going to be easy is it ;)
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

Well, yeah, it\'s not easy... the first time. I am just back from the game and I have to say that thanks to the helpfulness of another player, I managed to get out. So everyone: It can be done.

But the next time I die, I will know the route. So returning from the dead will _not_ be difficult. Especially, if I observed correctly, there is no loss in terms of belongings, experience and skill. So there is nothing making me stop to think: \"Should I attack that monster?\" Because if I die, I will go to the DR, get out in 2 minutes (yes, it takes that little time if you know the way, or you are shown), train a little and go back to the monster. So I think the Death Realms in its current form is still a _Bad Idea_. Think of some extra penalty. Because making people go blind by staring at a dark monitor from 2 centimeters is not a realistic and fun way of dealing with the dead IMHO.

You\'re playing a game in early alpha development :) That means a lot of things are still in their birth, the Death Realm included. In the future it will grow to incredible proportions, and require a lot more than simply finding a 2-minute exit. However, removing it entirely now just because it annoys a few players is not an option.

That\'s fine with me. All I\'m saying is that the challenge in the DR should not be darkness. Or at leat not this kind. Maybe logical puzzles, or such. Or even the maze can stay, but please put in some more lights. But now I\'m wondering into the wishlist section...

I can see perfectly fine, and I didn\'t have to adjust any of my monitor settings :) Strangeness. Have you attempted to explore the Death Realm with -fullbright?

And if you finally get lost, since you are already in the DR, typing /die is really an option! ;)

Some people just have dark monitors, like myself.  My one computer has a 19\", but dark, monitor (even with brightness and contrast on 100%).  Without -fullbright or gamma correction, I see nothing in most spots in the DR!

I also have a smaller 17\" monitor, with which I can see perfectly fine in the DR without the -fullbright or gamma correction.

So, it all depends on your monitor or GFX card.  Hardware issue.  People with sucky hardware get punished in the DR.

BTW- /die still seems to bring me back to the spawn area if I am in the very bottom, does this not work for some people?

Ya, Ive seen some people get stuck there unless they have a GMs help. For some odd reason /die doesnt always work at the bottem. But I have noticed, at least on my two pcs, that its typically a thing that happens a couple times. Typically if I keep typing it when it happens, I eventually respawn up there.

The only spot too dark is the initial spiral staircase.   Just take it sloooowly, and try to visualize the staircase winding upwards towards the wall to your left.  If you hug the wall like you would in real life, you can inch your ways around.  Because it is dark, use the third person camera and look for background light to outline the edge of the walkway to make it easier.  Once you\'ve done it once or twice, you won\'t even think about it again.  Then you can have fun trying to find the way out.  I didn\'t have to use -fullbright at all, so you shouldn\'t need to.
