Won't load, then crashes and freezes

I\'ve tried it a few times now - I load the updater, and everything works fine, and the server status is ok, but then when I click the start game button, it loads to all but a little bit and then stops. I can\'t close it, either, Ctr-Alt-Deleting, ending the process, and stuff won\'t work.
Any suggestions?

First off, have you made sure that you meet or exceed the minimum requirements?

Minimum Requirements:

* Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP, Mac OS X 10.2.6, Linux, FreeBSD or Solaris
* GeForce 2 or higher 3D graphics card
* 1 Ghz CPU
* 512 MB RAM
* 1 GB free disk space
* 56k modem Internet connection

Recommended Requirements:

* Windows XP, Mac OS X 10.2.6, Linux or FreeBSD
* GeForce 4 or higher 3D graphics card
* 2 Ghz CPU
* 1 GB RAM
* 1 GB free disk space
* Broadband Internet connection

Have you also updated your graphics card drivers, and has the updater finished thoroughly when you last ran it? Perhaps try again, and in recover mode. Also, how long do you let it sit for when it appears to stop loading?

You can live with as low as 256MB.  How in the world do you have such an akward ammount of RAM?  o.O  You probably have some sort of shared memory graphics card, or something.  If so, then are you sure your graphics card is enough?...

People have managed with less, I believe. What about my other suggestions/questions? And how about more: try disabling sound, and changing your skin to stone - options for both are available in the PlaneShift setup application.

DaveG - I don\'t know, this is my laptop...if I get desperate I\'ll download on my desktop, which I know has the right stats, but I\'d rather get this working on the laptop. And yeah, I\'m sure my graphics card is enough.

Yes, the updater is finished all the way, it gives me the message that says it\'s done

It stops loading right when it hits a certain point, and beforehand it\'s loading pretty fast. Once it got stuck, I let it stay there for about 20 minutes before trying to close, at which case it had frozen.

I tried running recover mode, and it just updates and then disappears, nothing else loads.

At what point (or message) does the world stop loading? How about this: find psclient.txt in your main PlaneShift directory, and delete it - then try to run the client again, and after it freezes for you, find the file once more and paste its contents into a post here.

And just in case: what is your graphics card model? :>

What is it doing at the time of the crash, in the game window? I can\'t see anything untoward in the console log you posted... If you\'re on windows, you could try going to your planeshift folder, rightclick+drag psclient.exe and select make shortcut here. Right click on the resulting shortcut, select properties. In the box called something like \"Target\", go to the end of the text box, after the ending quotes, and add a space followed by this (no quote marks) \"-verbose -console -fullbright\"

delete psclient.txt if it\'s there, then use that shortcut to start it. The options I listed above create a console window for you to watch, tell it to give you all the nitty-gritty details, and disable lightmapping.

If the resulting psclient.txt after the crash (if the crash doesn\'t happen, it might have been the lightmapping ) is any different, post it here.

i have a similar problem after i log in and click on join the game, it starts loading game, then it says requesting world and loading world. theres also a bit saying have fun.  then all at the same time theres more writting and it says stuff about loading charecters, then a box comes up saying  something unexpected happened in planeshift crystal blue  details: EXEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 6FD33CF8   it asks if i want a diagnostic report and then another box comes up saying planeshift needs to close, send report?  i have actually managed to get on twice and play for some time.

I have an inkling of suspicion that your RAM and graphics card fall below the minimum requirements, but as you said, you got on a few times before. Have you followed all suggestions before josePhoenix\'s? Updated the game client (in recover mode preferably), turned off sound, and switched to the stone skin?

Okay guys, it keeps telling me in those error reports that I\'m missing the iSoundmanager plugin or whatnot, but whenever I run the udpater it says everything is up-to-date!

Any ideas how to fix this?
