I need help.
« on: December 08, 2005, 11:51:02 am »
I downloaded the game and Bit Torrent, that was all fine. I made my character and her profile and that was all fine. I get to the point were I am loading the world, the loading bar gets all the way to the end, it stops and gives me this error message: [Somthing unexected happined in PlaneShift: Crystal Blue Details: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 6FP33CF8... Would you like to save a diagnostic file?] I don\'t understand what happined, it worked fine a few times there, I could walk my character around and everything, but now it does this. Can anyone figure this out?

A quick search for 6FD33CF8 shows two threads with the same error:
Unusual crashes
something unexpected error

Both seem to be solved by turning off sound.

No wait, the moment I sent that message it did it again, right in the middle of walking my character. I kept the sound off and now it wont let me in again with out that message poping up.

First, please do not post new messages if nobody has replied to you. Use the Edit Post button if you want to add new information.

Then back to the problem.

* Is it the same error that you get or something new?

* Do you meet the requirements for the game to run:
Quote

Minimum Requirements:

* Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP, Mac OS X 10.2.6, Linux, FreeBSD or Solaris
* GeForce 2 or higher 3D graphics card
* 1 Ghz CPU
* 512 MB RAM
* 1 GB free disk space
* 56k modem Internet connection

Recommended Requirements:

* Windows XP, Mac OS X 10.2.6, Linux or FreeBSD
* GeForce 4 or higher 3D graphics card
* 2 Ghz CPU
* 1 GB RAM
* 1 GB free disk space
* Broadband Internet connection

People report that they are running the game with less memory than the minimum, but it might be one of the reasons for crashes.

* Have you made sure that your graphic card drivers are updated?

Another simple suggestion is to switch from the default to the stone skin :) Options for skins are available in the PlaneShift setup application.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Now that the tv add fashion has reached the community (see general discussion) I suggest some promotion for this quite unused skin, that seems to solve some problems that lots of new players use to experience, something like:

\"Switching to Stone Skin will make your client stable as a rock\"

or

\"Stone Skin, harsh against crash\"

yeah... back to topic:

Qualara: are you sure you\'re getting the same exact message? Don\'t worry because there are several \"original\" crashes, each one identified by a number. Theoretically you should have got rid of the one you experienced only by turning off sound, so perhaps you\'re experiencing a new one.
Do you recall if there was some sector boundary you were crossing when your client crashed? You\'ll know because either a map was loading, or the lighting changed a lot (say you entered the tavern, the forest, the tunnel to the Arena...) if you\'re on one of those cases, you could always be teleported to a \"safe\" area by a GM (meaning safe as a place you were able to load before) try going to the same place you crashed, and if it does that again, perhaps there\'s something wrong with one of the files you downloaded.
Are there any MoonSeekers left?
