LCD monitors

Im looking into buying a 17inch lcd monitor, 8ms refresh rate for gaming.

Im planning on ordering from Newegg and I have a few questions.

Its below freezing where I am right now. will it be damaging to ship it in these conditions?

also, about dead pixels.  How frequent are these.. I know you cant return unless you have 8 or more.. but even one would drive me mad.

Im looking at a DAEWOO, does anyone have anything to say about this brand? it didnt get any bad reviews. but it never hurts to be safe

Most things are shipped in contained envirenments ~60 degrees F. so unless they just set it on your doorstep, it should never get too cold. Not that it would hurt it. In fact, electronic equipment generally work better when cold. It makes things more conductive. As for dead pixels, I have never had one on a LCD screen. I dont know how often they happen, but I don\'t worry about them. I did however have one on my old CRT monitor. But I never noticed it. I don\'t even know how long it was there before I finally did notice it. If the screen you buy has an insanly high resolution, it will be so small it wont affect anything. The only time you really notice them is when the screen is displaying something very bright.

It\'s not that common I don\'t think. The school I go to has quite a few LCD\'s and I don\'t think we\'ve had any dead pixels yet. The only probs we\'ve had with them is little kids knocking them and breaking the screens or cracking them which is worse as 1 little crack annoys the hell out of you on the rest of the screen.

about daewoo: i\'ve had a 15\' crt monitor from them which have been functional for 6 years without any problems at all. it has been dropped from 2 meters of height without taking any damage except for a crack in the plastic. I don\'t know if this is still true for Daewoo or if they produce good lcd\'s but i\'ve been very happy for the crt while i used it

my father has an lcd(brand, can\'t remember) it has 4 dead pixels and he says that it is very annoying...

Ive ordered the monitor, all i can hope for is that it arrives safely and without any defects.  Reviews say that to have more than 1 dead pixel is very rare.

my uncle has one. se says its pretty hard to notice while you play games..  but I dunno.

im just gunna hope for the best

I\'ve got one dead pixel out of three monitors from Newegg (Samsung 910Ts).  Actually, it\'s more of an undead pixel -- the blue component is stuck on full.  It\'s not noticeable at all in a brightly lit scene.  You can see it in a dark environment, if you\'re looking for it, but in a typical gaming environment when you\'re looking around the screen all the time, it doesn\'t really register.

I\'m using a 17\" LCD monitor right now, and I love it. My family has had, between laptops and computers, about 5 LCDs, and I don\'t think any of them showed signs of defect until they neared the end of their life span.

btw, I use a viewsonic va520

about what would you say the lifespan is? im hoping to get a good while out of this if i take care of it.

its going on my desk and it isnt ever moving
