crash after world is loaded (on the first mouseclick)
« on: December 10, 2005, 02:05:50 pm »
Time of test:      9.12.2005
OS:                    windows2000 professional servicepack 4
Processor:         AMD Duron
RAM:                  1Gigabyte
Video Card:       Hercules 3D Prophet TV-out
Video Card Memory:      64MB
PS Client Version:          0.3.012 (it did do the same with an older Version a month ago.)
OpenGL or Safe Mode:  (hm, don\'t know.)

Description of the bug:

I can start the game, do the character-creation, load the world.
Then I see my Character in the ingame-menues. The Street and the buildings around look dark, as if it were night.

If I click with the mouse, the light becomes broad daylight, and I get a Message like this:

Quote
Something unexpected happended in PlaneShift: Crystal Blue
Details: EXEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 2D43C896
Would you like to save a diagnostic file?

If I do nothing but waiting a view seconds, the light stays dark, but the same Error-Message appeares

Sometimes I\'d click the mouse, nothing happens (and it stays dark) for a view seconds, and then the lights and the ErrorMessage appear at exactly the same time.

I had the same bug with an older version of PlaneShift about a month ago.
I somewhat hoped that it would run if I waited for the next version.

Well, it never got to run.

(oh, I already tried turning off the sound)
(I\'ll try switching to the stone-skin, but as far as I remembered I tried that before.)

I\'d suggest updating your card drivers:
http://ts.hercules.com/eng/index.php?pg=files_faq

What you describe recalls me the darkness bug, but this has been finally fixed, as it was a problem with the relighting not being done, if you were too fast loading the map.
Also, you can ensure that you got all the updates by running the updater (recover mode usually gives less trouble) avaiable on start-all programs-planeshift-planeshift updater (recover mode)

It indeed seems graphics related, since you see the screen all black, but also, turning off sound with planeshift setup could help if all the above fails.

And although your error number seems new to me, if switching your default skin to the stone one fixes your problem, then that would be the 2nd weirdest fix ever seen.

I do hope that updating the drivers will suffice.  ;)

PS: And if you load the game without crashing, and still see it dark, either use a gamma correction feature with your graphics card, or search the forums for \"fullbright\"
Are there any MoonSeekers left?

Thank you for the quick answer. It didn\'t help though.

Installed new drivers - no effect.

ensure that you got all the updates

I ran it just before I started the game. Though I don\'t know what the \"recover mode\" is.

Error number? Well, the number changes every time. Example: 778CAAD
Shall I get more numbers?

There was a post about an AccessViolation that suggestet that action.
Tried it again, it did not help.
