Hello everybody!
« on: December 12, 2005, 06:00:35 am »
I just started playing this game today... Been playing around 5-10 hours straight now... And gotta say that this looks very promising.

The whole concept here. Possibilities... Everything...
And one very \"important\" shall we say, aspect, the whole damn thing is free.
Perhaps could replace the word important with something like nice/great/etc. :)

I\'m not gonna go to the technical stuff here... (Bugs, things not ready yet and all that) Not justified to start going through them, cos its still WIP and since its my first post too :)

I hope you guys keep up the good work. (Seen some very promising things fade away by difficulties and/or differencies) I\'m pretty sure though that you will succeed, because its been quite a long process already and this is coming along very nicely.

Just a few words about my game experience so far.
Talked with people.
Met a nice person who kindly directed/took my to the sewers.
Did some rat killing down there.
Also got killed by a rogue (didn\'t realize it was an enemy LOL)
Get out of DR with a help of another kind person.
Explored around the city and surroundings.
Sold stuff to the blacksmith guy, Harnquist and bought the rock pick from him.
Mined gold ore.
Hmm... That\'s about it... Quite nice experience so far ;)

I have to say that I see quite a few possibilities here already...  Not to mention the guilds aswell :)

Well, I\'m gonna cut this post here... Plenty more to say really, but I\'m happy if someone got as far as here.

Greetings and welcome to PlaneShift!

So happy to see another new face who is excited about the game and its possibilities :) And perhaps we\'ll see you contributing sometime. You seem to be someone who would take some time to learn about a game before jumping in, and thus likely to have stumbled upon the Player Guide or some FAQs already - but I\'ll link you to them just in case ;)

A short but helpful FAQ
Character Naming Policy - Must Read!
A Guide to Role-Playing
How to Report In-Game Abuse
On Guilds and their creation
Guide to 2D/3D Contribution

?among others. There is the Player Guide, too, and just in case - make sure you\'ve updated the game before logging in, and that you have the latest drivers for your graphics card installed. Tends to help tons. Try to before posting new threads for suggestions or bug reports, as things are likely to have been mentioned a few times, and remember, you can also use the in-game Help channel for any questions in the game world - an Advisor will try to help you ASAP. Or at least they should; I hear they\'ve been goofing off lately ;)

Cheers!
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Hi and thanks for your nice reply.

I\'m , trying to keep an open mind about things and this \"game\" aswell. And as said this looks very good from the \"first tryout\" point of view.

I did a fair share of reading about other peoples\' experiences and those faqs and all before starting and during playing. I find those posts very informative and helpful, besides I met nice people in the game that helped me get going.

And sure this game is not perfect, but nobody can\'t expect it to be at this point atleast. Non-commercial with \"amateurs\" making it... Huge workload etc.
Amateurs is not meant to be offensive in any way, just meaning that you don\'t do this as a work or so.

I would be glad to help. I just don\'t know what could I do to help. Possibly reporting bugs and stuff? But I don\'t know a thing about programming and that kind of stuff :)

I\'ll give feedback though, if that\'s what needed :)

Welcome to Yliakum! Or Akkiao, depending on your species. :P.

You don\'t need a Ph.D. in programming to help contribute :). You can give suggestions, roleplay whenever you\'re in the game, and even participate in game events. YES, there are plenty of in game events run by guilds, single people, even game masters :D.

If I can help you in anyway at all, feel free to PM me here on the forum or contact me in game. I hope you decide to stick around as this game will definately improve and expand ^.^.

The most effective way for a regular player to contribute is to (correctly) use BugTracker.  I\'ve been adding to a how-to guide, bit by bit:  Guide to the BugTracker.  I highly encourage (if not demand, in the case of some morons who post there...) all those who wish to post on BT to read this first.  Read existing bugs, and don\'t just assume that a bug you experience is \"known\".  Too many players just ignore the bugs, and move on.  If it isn\'t on BugTracker, it\'s not officially known.  The more people that (correctly) report bugs, the better.  :)

Hi Archon and thanks for the welcome :)

Sure I\'ll try to help if I just can.

Drey, do I need to sacrifice a goat for you?

Oh and Dave, can\'t you just post bugs and stuff in a thread like this?

I mean, I could give info about things that happened to me for example here?

Sure there would be some or even many things already discussed in the forums, but it would be from  my own personal experience. And I wouldn\'t expect any response to those that have already been discussed, just to brign them up. For those that aren\'t possibly discussed, well then they would be helpful (I would assume) for the makers of the game.

No, no goats for Drey. He was denied that privalege after the \"incident\". XD

Though I\'m sure he\'d enjoy some freshly baked cookies and ice cold lemonade. oh, and be sure to give some to his most excellent musician, Sekhemet Basek. she would prefer milk to lemonade, however. she also will accept wine or strong ale.

*looks around, then sneaks off*

Ah yes, an \"incident\"... :) I understand.

So...

Freshly baked cookies, check.
Ice cold lemonade, check.

And for his musician, milk :)

And perhaps strong ale or wine, if I come up with some ;)

Btw, I\'m kinda wondering the guild thing. I mean I know the concept and all and know the basics, homepages and stuff like that. Done some researching.

But thing is, or things if you will, is that I probably can\'t be accepted to any guilds (yet?)?

Nor I don\'t know what guild would suit me the best. I mean I don\'t have an aligment or anything for example... Not particularly good or evil or neutral if you wonder either... I\'m just this grey mass at the moment, but would really like to know which guild would be for me.

There are other things on my mind aswell. If and when you make more characters into the game, do you have to belong to a same guild with every char or is it just the opposite? Or is it so that only one of your chars can belong to a guild or or or...?

And can you leave a guild if it doesn\'t match your likings, way or just that you want to leave and do something else for example?

I have so many questions here, probably not wise to write all of them here...

But the bottom line is, if somebody could recommend a good guild for me, that accepts new members, even if they are noobs to this game, please feel free to do so.

I\'m planning on playing this game on a regular basis, learning about things and doing various things. For example becoming a miner/weapon maker or so... So really planning on getting into the game :)

I hope to contribute in that way also.

Try not to double-post, first of all :) A minor thing, but if you could, just edit your previous post to add new information, if no one has replied yet.

A guild that helps to sculpt grey masses into strong (personality-wise) characters would be good, but unfortunately I don\'t know of any such, personally. An excellent one is in the making, but... well, it\'s in the making ;) Perhaps Janner\'s Way is what you may be looking for right now, however. Friendly helpful members, without any alignment or goal.

Each of your characters is a separate being. If one of your characters is accepted into a guild, it doesn\'t influence any of the others on your account. All of your characters can be in guilds, though some guilds advise against it - since you can only spend so much time playing all of the characters, and there\'s some stuff about OOC knowledge and spying and whatnot and... it\'s a mess ;) Best to check with individual guilds; some don\'t mind at all.

Guilds don\'t have contracts :) You can leave any guild at any time, but be careful - some of them don\'t admit back those that have left once.

if your still looking for a guild our crafting guild UoC, released today is looking for people who want to become miners and or smithers. There is a thread in the guilds section with our info, otherwise talk to Ancre IG.

Karyuu, sorry about the double-post, but I thought it would be more clear that way, since the things in those 2 posts were completely different.

Thanks for a very informative post anyway.
Helped with those things quite a lot :)

Hellios, I gotta say that I have already looked through your thread there, and immediately thought that it would be the perfect for me at this point atleast. I would love to be a miner/maker/crafter.

It was like the second after I had written my post :)

Divine guidance perhaps :)

No goats, just think of the trees with you every action. Also, send AFI to London.

Hah, reminds me of this :P

Hi, welcome to Planeshift and since I\'m at it, the \"grey mass\" would be the neutrals.
