LOL you must be kidding. In my experience this is the first one I joined where having so little monsters is an issue and where people actually talk sometimes.

This is just my experience with the game, with my game time hours.  I am glad your experience is different.  I hope my experience is not common and PS has an active player base, but based on some of the previous posts, I am not alone in this perception.  The small range of the say comman may be some of the source of problem.  All in all I think EQ, DAoC, and Shadowbane all have more interaction than PS.

Yes, I know all those games are play to play and are past the pre-alfa stage.  However I have played a few of the free-MMORPG\'s and have had more interaction with players. Actually the old MB version had better social interaction than the current one.

Fine words. Mind explaining why you were stood calling all to you in arena corridor, with 3 Glads and 4 Rogues, O yes i did report it. and when i stood by master Glad you had to try and steal it, and when you failed miserably with me you had to steal Sempers. Also stealing the guys Glad from the end.

i wish i was clearer
« Reply #17 on: December 14, 2005, 10:53:38 am »
I wish I communicated better.  It is obvious that I am somehow unclear in communicating what I mean.  Let me restate this:

I came into the arena pit with the 3 Trepor.  There was one character in that arena running to all three spawns.  There were Trepor parts laying everywhere(in my experience this means  his inventory was full but wanted to hunt more).  I began picking up the parts.  In every game I have played, this seems common practice and not frowned upon.  I then chose one of the Trepors and killed it.  After that, every Trepor I stepped up to, he ran to and was able to attack it before me, keeping me from killing any.  I eventually stood at one, thinking that he would take the other two and leave me the one.  I tried to communicate my intentions:  \"I\'ll take one, that\'s all I need.\"  \"O, I\'ll take the one on this end, these two are closer.\"  and finally \"Why are you being so mean?\"  None of these responses were ever returned.  I had never experienced this before despite hunting the Trepor pit a lot.

When I spoke to his GL, he said that I had not asked if I could kill any of the Trepor.  That is when I made this post to determine Spawn Camping Protocols because I couldn\'t believe that this was what was expected.  It has always seemed second nature to take a spawn that is extra(The two merc station is always shared, I always ask for the one that doesn\'t drop since they were there first.)  I always ask!  The issue I had was with the Trepor pit being so large, do you really have to ask?  The responses I have received here tells me this guy decided he could take the spawns from me(and he could, I could do nothing).  Apparently he was using this shortcut Zanzibar mentioned.

I started this thread to determine if I needed to create a character that is capable of stealing any spawn from anyone or just simply live with the few individuals who are like this.  That is all I am interested in, but it is obvious that there are differing views on how to handle this.

Kythag, the easiest thing to do here, is to wait at the one you see him kill first then wait... the kill that one.

Dreys responce sounds like a YES to your question about making a kill stealing character.  I personally think that you owe the other player an apology.  You should start with a greet command followed by a say\" Kind sir, your skill with a sword is most amazing\" Or some such thing.  Putting yourself in the other players shoes, you simply walked up and started picking up stuff and killing without even saying hello.  Where in the world other than a video game do people behaive like this?

I am not sure which character Kythag used when he run into that situation, but I have got an impression that his main character has very little intelligence and a limited vocabulary, so it might be difficult for him to communicate in such a kind manner :]   Where in the world other than a video game do you meet characters like this?  :P

That is a copout.  He never once said that he was even trying to role play and that the other player was rude to him because he was not speaking properly.

Even if he was roleplaying a rude mute an OOC tell to the other player before hand should have been used before he engaged in roleplaying the said rude mute.

You shoul.d really read the entire thread
« Reply #22 on: December 14, 2005, 02:21:43 pm »
Ok, Drey I have stated over and over that I stood at one, he was attacking quicker than me, there was nothing I could do or I would have.  Believe me when I say, I stood there 3 times at the same spawn, he was quicker than me and taking full advantage of it.

Derwoodly, I wish you would read these threads before making judgments.  I have stated over and over again that I said things to him several times with no response.  I have also stated that I have come to the conclusion that the guy simply started using his ability to take the spawns from me.

I did nothing wrong in that situation, I will not apologize to that guy.  Furthermore, I have played Conquer Online and Guild Wars and drops are routinely snagged in both, despite the GW protocol to protect player drops.  In both games, if you leave the drops, they are gone.  Also, he couldn\'t pick them up!  Do you think he could have went to Hydlaa and came back and they would be there?  If there are parts laying on the ground that I want, I will call a guild member to come help me with them.

If I walk into an arena or any other location and items are laying there wasting that are worth money, I will pick them up!  I will not change that act.

Edit while posting:  Derwoodly, Again READ my posts closer.  I did say that I tried to contact him.  QUIT judging me without getting all the facts!!!

Then practice double clicking on things. The only thing you can blame there is your reaction speeds... also you could try else where like out on ojaroad, it is usually alot more quiet.

@Kythag, I did read all of the posts to this thread.  The above quote is what made me think that it was you that should initiate the apology.  Since you seem to have a problem with this approch let me show you how it is done...

If GM\'s like Drey and Karyuu believe you should not need to start a conversation first, before you enter another players \"camp\" then it is I who is wrong about the edicate of spawn camping.  In the future I will not expect friendly greatings from other players before they spawn camp the mob near me or pick up any of my droped items.

@ Drey,  It may not be his reaction speeds.  If the other player has lower packet delay times and more FPS, they will get to see the mob spawn first.  Your system favors players with faster computers and faster/better connection.  Players that play at a terminal in the building that hosts fragnetics will win this kind of game.

Eee! I don\'t want to make it seem like greetings are completely unnecessary. Indeed, better to greet and start a conversation than not greet. I just (personally) feel that it isn\'t rude if you start fighting without such. I\'m not a GM, too :) That would be just Drey.

There is no rule that says you have to have a nice chit chat with anyone else. As long as you dont exploit any bugs such as using spells to claim the spawn any way that you go about making the kill is fine.

I thought we had this discussion on kill stealing and such ages back.

Kythag: My bottom line for you is, if you cant compete and they are not willing to share (it could have easily been that he was just ignoring your messages) either wait till they are done or go else where.

it would appear i missed the edit button :|

*sigh*  Nice grammar, as usual.  I also like how - once again - you\'re accusing me of something false in a public forum.  Why not post something that will help Kythag out?  Why instead use the forums to act in such a childish way?

Kythag, there will always be pests in the game.  You just have to know how to deal with them.  Make the shortcut.  Hot key it to Q or 1 or another key you don\'t usually use.  If that\'s still not enough, switch one hand to melee.  Combine it with patience, and you have your solution.  Often, these pests will become frustrated and will either leave, start yelling at you, cheat, or act in some other underhanded way to get at you.  If it gets bad, call in a GM to get rid of them for you.

Whatever you do though, don\'t follow Guppy\'s (In game, he is Janner) reaction.  Being so reactionary and inflammitory won\'t help you.  And whatever you do, don\'t lie.  If the other guy is actually doing something wrong, call in a GM and he\'ll get called on it.
