Australia and riots
« on: December 12, 2005, 04:45:31 pm »
this is my first thread so bare with me  :P

a few days ago, arabic youths bashed 2 lifeguards in sydney.  they have been known to harase \'australians and single australians out, some lebanese do have a large hate for australians.

(no im not saying aussies dont do this as well)

on sunday 5000 aussies showed up at the beaches, drinking beer, wearing aussie flags, aussie singlets with flags on them and singing aussie songs and chants. one guy even had a barbie going lol.

i was really proud to see this, singing and having our flags and sticking up for what they believe inand defending the australian way of life (going to the beach) with such pride(i wouldhave taken a flag and some beer)

the majority of them where there with a message

* to show that no one owns the beaches
* we are not going to tolerate gangs and intimidating un-australian persons
* we are proud to be aussies and will not step down

parts of it turned out to be a disgrace for the country.  aussies hunted down people of arabic apearance and threw beers at them and bashed them.  what a f**king disgrace.

later that night middle eastern gangs/people smashed a large number of cars and assulted any randoms they could find. one person was stabbed in the back, a woman was even hit in the head.

the following night (happening as i amtyping) the middle eastern gangs are still going at it.

This is a disgrace for the aussies and the australian arabics.

i am not blaming anyone or saying it was all the arabics or all the aussies.

please do not post with stupidity, racism, flames or try and tell us how to run the country or stupid things like that.

and please ffs dont just quote me to try and look cool,or tough.

thank you for reading this, i am trying to give a straight story and non biased one towards the arabics aussies or aussie..aussies

what a sad day in australia.

i would like to know how you feel or how your opinions are changed with regarding australia. id like to hear from the few aussies in here as well.

remember:i know its not all australians and lebanese, just a few and all types of people commit bad acts, not just aussies and lebanese.

thank you. . (no flame wars, just do not aim at anyone im paranoid here)

While this is a sad time for Australia because of all the racist things that go on we really need to put up with it. Yes. It needs to be solved but it isn\'t going to happen very fast. As a fact Australia\'s muliticulturalism is made up of Asians, Aboriginals/black races, Lebenese and other races and cultures. We can\'t have one arguement to sort it all out. If everyone living in Australia that belongs to a differant race to someone else ie; his neighbour, work mate or people like that all fought about racists then Australia and every other country is in for a lot of trouble. We wouldn\'t be able to cope with all this in courts and what is happening is a sign of this. For all we know the Lebenese might storm up onto the steeps of Parlimant in a gang and have a \'Protest\' about us now being racist to them. The world has these problems and they won\'t go away straight away. I\'m not saying that this shouldn\'t be discussed but and that your thread is bad Davo but it should be left alone till it all settles because i\'m sure we don\'t want a racist outbreak on these forums or any other forums or place.
yes... i\'m addicted to smilies :P:):D;), get me mental help peoples....

The immage I had of Australia is that it is quite xenofobic, mainly because of the way I hear refugees are treated.

Sadly, the ethnical riots happening now only strengthen me in that view.

Maybe I\'m wrong. As it is also a matter of how one interprets what he sees. Symbolical things like walking with national flags and singing patriottic songs can mean something different in different cultures.

For instance in my country, the Netherlands, nationalism expressed the way you describe, pretty much equals racism and xenofobism as usually only right extremistic people walk around with the national flags where I live, and I can\'t think of any dutch patriotic song exept for the national anthom which most people don\'t even know the text of.

I\'m aware that in countries like Australia and the US those symbols are very common and harmless, but people here usually get the creeps when they see that on TV, often judging it as a sign of felt superiority.

I\'m not saying that one way is better, I\'m simply trying to explain that cultural differences like that can influence the way people interpret what they see on TV.

please remember it is not total racism or xenofobic.

we are sticking up for our australian way of life for it is threated by peoplewho are of a different race. that is all.

lebanese gangs and lebanese individuals are rioting as we speek, not aussies.

we protested against violent lebanese, not rallying for racism.
