Rangers of Yliakum - Remade
« on: December 14, 2005, 11:28:54 pm »
Leader: Farren Kutter

Second-in-Command: Kallis Mulkai

Website: http://rangers-yliakum.avidgamers.com

History (short one for now, might extend it later):
The Rangers of Yliakum was an old faction, one that seemed to have died away, the noble members seeming to fade from it... After that, it seemed only to be a dream, a dream which young Farren Kutter had every night and all day. He grew up alone, his family having abandoned him for some unknown reason, and he was bombarded with evil. Then one Sirunie Looseye, a carefree Klyros, came upon him and took him under his wing. He brought him into the faction that he led and Farren became known as the Jokester. He worked his way quickly through the ranks, becoming an Arch Knight within a week or two, as well as Sirunie\'s sidekick. But his dream tugged at him, beckoning him to make his dream real. he envisioned a faction of great warriors, respectful and kind as well as strong, following a leader into battle against the evil that assailed him as a child. He created this faction with the help of his former mentor and also the help of another friend, Masoj Hunett, leader of the Dark Shadows. Now the Rangers of Yliakum have been reborn, but most likely with different goals. But there are Rangers once again. Evil beware...

Goal:
The Rangers of Yliakum is a faction created to fight evil and fight for what is right. Might seem old and banal, but that is what thye are. But that is not ALL that they are. They are a faction of friends and kind people, people who are meant to help others and each other. It is a community, and everyone can help another person, doing their own job.

Ranks:
1- Beginner
2- Apprentice
3- Trainer
4- Informer
5- Supply Keeper
6- Messenger
7- Ranger Fighter
8- Ranger Knight
9- Master Ranger

Recruitment Requirements:
Must be at least slightly RP-oriented, as I plan on the Rangers taking part in RP events every once in a while. Other requirements are that you just must be kind and helpful to others, especially other members, and to never be rude. You must try to keep to your job and do your job when needed. No true stat requirements or anything. I welcome all members who do the above things. I wish all reports of rudeness to be directly pointed to my attention, and I will personally deal with it.

Rank Descriptions:

Beginners - These are people new to the game. They will be taught basic skills (kill, loot, sell, and train) and then moved on to Apprentice.

Apprentices - Apprentices are to be trained more in depth if they are still rather new to the game. A Trainer will teach them how to do things like magic and all of that stuff.

Trainers - Trainers teach the Beginners and Apprentices how to do basic and more advanced things in the game such as, for Beginners, killing, looting, selling, and training. For Apprentices, they will teach how to do magic, how to set up shorcuts to the spells and items such as potions, things like that.

Informers - Informers are the people who can tell you where certain NPCs are, what they can train, what they can buy/sell. Some people may be Informers for a special area, such as trainers and what they train. Informers may choose to charge a small fee for their services, but I would ask them not to go above maybe 300 trias, if that. Even that seems a tad bit high to me...

Supply Keepers -  These are the people who keep a handy supply of weapons and items and stuff. They, like the Informers, may choose to have a specialty type such as weapons, types of weapons, items, potions, etc. Again, like the Informers, they may choose to charge a fee. They can charge a small fee for holding things, maybe charging a certain amount per day, and also for loaning weapons, selling weapons... They may also give out weapons, but only ones that aren\'t owned by others... How they choose to operate is their choice. Holding fees shouldn\'t go above 20 trias per day, loaning 50 per day, and selling anything more than 5k above selling price... If that for those prices. I\'m trying to keep it fair but also helping the other members.

Messengers - More of a RP character, but you can also leave them with messages if you are getting off early and need someone else to know something. But like I said, they may be used more for RP purposes.

Ranger Fighters - Also sorta RP, they are also who fights as the main defense of the guild. Will help a lot in any RP battles and such.

Ranger Knight - The highest rank, only given to my second-in-command, Kallis Mulkai, and also other significant players. The main job of the Ranger Knights is to sorta help a bit in all of the jobs, but are not dedicated to any one job, nor expected to be able to help with all.

Master Ranger - The Master Ranger is whoever happens to be in charge of the Rangers of Yliakum, which right now, and maybe for as long as the guild is around, is me. May seem a bit cocky and stuff, but oh well, that is the title of the leader of this faction. The main function is to make all big decisions, a lot of times asking the members for their opinions and working off of them to find some sort of compromise. Also helps with all the other jobs every so often if no one else can or if he feels so inclined to do so.

***Ok, still fixing the guild up a bit, trying to get a nice system for the ranks to work on, trying to find a nice structure. I will personally go out looking for members to ask to join, but only after a little while of watching them. I will only ask people who seem to be able to play well and might be active enough. People I think might turn out good in the game.***

Good Luck kiddo. Though, I don\'t understand, why trying to revive something that\'s already dead? Why not making something new. Be creative, it\'s not that hard.

Oh, and I\'d practically kill the person who\'d make something similar with the BO. Uh, wait! It\'s too old to be known...

:P

Once again, good luck and may your guild prosper as it once did. Cheers!

Well you see, that part is an OOC matter... See, at the time of its creation, I truly didn\'t know there had been another Ranger guild. I assumed there might have been, and was puzzled that there still wasn\'t one, but never knew until i recieved a few flames and slightly disliking posts on my first thread a long time ago... when i wrote my history, i decided to pay some respect to the old guild.

Edit: BTW, thanks :)

Ey, I finally found the time to read through the post and reply :) Sorry it took so long. Let\'s see how I could organize my thoughts...

Things I liked:
[*]Roleplay in-character history - pretty vital for any guild, otherwise there may be a quick boot or a severe talkin\' to ;) Glad to see that you have this one down.
[*]Homeage to the old guild - awesome to see you \"paying respects,\" so to speak!
[*]Vision of a community - always nice when a guild feels like a family or very close circle of friends, so good to hear you\'re striving towards this.
[*]Thought-out ranks - while there may be some things I\'m not too sure about within them, at least you\'ve taken the time to think them through and write them out, and made sure that they aren\'t just pretty names without a job beneath them.
[*]Organization - you have a vision of what you want to create, and are on the right steps to solidifying it :)
Things I think could be improved:
[*]More roleplay - right now the feeling I get from your post is that you are more of a newbie-tutorial guild than a true guild of the rangers. There is too much mention of OOC commands and game mechanics, particularly within your ranks.
[*]What are rangers? - Wanderers, rovers, explorers, patrollers. The land is in their blood. I don\'t see much evidence of this in your guild\'s structure. What makes your guild a guild of rangers as opposed to just a group of helpful people?
[*]Ranger ranks - every rank needs RP purposes. Your entire guild does :) It\'s not good enough to have the Messenger as an RP in-game rank only. This is also, incidentally, the only rank that works with the vision of a guild of rangers. Also \"Ranger Knight\" seems too clumsy of a phrase... ;) Rangers are unfettered, independent kinsmen; Knights are grandiose, noble-minded and dutiful \"champions.\" I think trying to merge these is akin to mixing water and oil.
You have a really good start, but I think that some parts need more fleshing out in order for the guild to \"grow into\" its name. You\'re the Rangers, right? So... :)
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

I\'ll be sure to take a look at those things... but remember, I redid the whole guild after thinking about it for 5 seconds or so, literally. i was sitting there talking to Kallis and I was thinking \"You know, I\'m going to redo the guild\" and off i went just changing things...

Your PM inbox is full, Farren :P Usually I would suggest that a person thinks things through some more before making a thread in the guild forum, but ultimately it\'s the best place for feedback and suggestions for ideas :) Either way, good luck with this!

Yeh, but even with the short time of thought put into the changes, it is better than it was... And do you know how much of a pain in the butt it is to delete 125 messages? My poor finger almost collapsed from so much checkmark clicking :P

nice job. the website is...well...green.  I guess it covers everything, though the forums seem short. (unless I need to be part of the guild to see all the boards).
There are two types of people in this world: The Pinky and the Brain.
      Which one are you?

how did I miss this one before. ohh well anyhow good luck with this although I don\'t think this is the best choice of a guild one should revive.

Exept for the nature thing it doesn\'t add much and when recreating I think thats pretty important.

Well, like I said, at the time, I didn\'t know I was recreating a guild.... And I am NOT going to change my guild now. I did that once and got flamed by friends who had grown to like the guild as it was... At one time, we were called Champions of Light, but I hated that and just changed us back to the Rangers. Farren Kutter is a ranger. The name Farren even means wanderer, a synonym of ranger. Naturally, I found that out only a few days ago when looking up the meanings of names, deciding to see what Farren meant... Must be fate... Farren is a ranger and is staying that way. I am not recreating the Ranger guild, I\'m building a new one.
