dwarven homeland
« on: December 15, 2005, 02:50:39 am »
I have had an idea about a place for the dwarven homeland. the caverns under the city with the diamonds in it would be a good place if it was expanded and a few npcs/shops were added. Dwarves a miners and i thought that a mine would be the perfect place.

thanks for listening to my idea

Hi,

I\'d like to second the motion. An underground dwarven city sounds really cool. (And I\'m an elf!)

That\'s the dungeon, and it only goes down so far, and so wide. There will be fully separate, actual dwarven cities in the future :)

that would be kool but that would be unfair to the other races, only dwaves get a homeland and not any other race?

Edit -I made this post during Karyuus and white slayers.

Hello again,

I believe it is planned that, eventually, every race will have at least one city. My next comment may belong on another thread, but here goes: perhaps each city ought to have its own economic advantage. That is, the dawrven city has better access to mining, an elvish city more access to herbs, etc. (Or something like that...)

yeah i know that each race will have a city was just explaining a possible design for one and i like the thing bout dwarves having mining and elves having herbs.
humans could have farming. diaboli could have umm well i dunno but yeah a great idea.

I don\'t think that there\'ll be a homeland within Yliakum for most races, only the Lemurs and the Kran are the exceptions, them being created here.

Now, cities and such are different. The notion of an underground dwarven city is interesting, but it appears that a large number of them would rather live outside of their mines, venturing into their depths to collect natural resources (At least in my opinion).

As for each race having better access to different resources... Well, it does go for diversity, but the common resources: iron, coal, stone, wood, food, etc. should be at least readily available for each city. The placement of cities are not by chance, usually ;)

Remember, we\'re all \'underground\' here :)
Crazy am I. Not responsable for crazyness that ensues.

Hi,

I guess when we say \"underground,\" we really mean \"within the wall of the stalagtite.\" ;) Yes, common resources should be available everywhere. It would be too much of a pain to have to travel for hours to get a piece of wood. (Perhaps the dwarven city would need a lumber yard!) Also, since Lemur and Kran are native, it may be appropriate for them to have multiple cities/villages. So let\'s all stick around for the next ten years so we can see all this be implemented. Talk about a tall order!

Me being a dwarf fanatic think that it would really make sense for the dwarven city to be underground. Dwarves in trees is just illogical according to standard fantasy settings (though not impossible :D)

I can imagine already the great golden halls of the dwarves with access to mines and dangerous dungeons. You never know what dangers lie hidden in the bowels of the earth.

Off course we are all \"underground\", but since dwarves have mining in their blood it it would be great to create it around a giant mining exploitation.

That pic is a concept art for how the Stonebreaker Citadel will look so it should be pretty close to how it will become in-game.

I\'m kinda hoping it\'ll be standing against a mountain though, not just in the open air. Maybe that way there can still be a part of the city hidden in the rocks.

I imagine it to be sculptured in the rocky wall of one of the levels. I don\'t imagine these rocky borders of each levels to be almost ideally smooth, rather full of cliffs and somethink in form of spiky smaller mountains coming from it, like on that drawing.
