Dueling Points / Named Items
« on: December 16, 2005, 01:06:13 am »
Ok im not sure how hard it is to do named items but i have an idea for Dueling Points.

Named items:
An item locked to a players name so that only that player may weild that weapon.

 Lets say for examples sake..
\"Gormis\'s Long Sword\" and only Gormis can use it
\'s

Useing dueling points to obtain such items:

 Lets say for examples sake..
Named Long Sword = 120 DP
After buying your dueling points are reduced by the cost of points

Now taking into concideration the cost of these named items the item stats should match the cost..
120 DP would be slightly hard to obtain as the dueling  top 5 clearly shows

Player Duel Points
Kyixi 306.69
Mitaki 284.16
Keyaz 165.83
Necro 123.21
Ressin 99.44

If it were up to me i would make the...
\"Named Long Sword\" = 120 DP
4.00(weight)   2.10(speed)          44.00(slash)
[the same as a fire longsword or even higher]

Please change the size of your signature to fit within the 140x500 max pixels allowed, first of all, and second explain this all in terms of roleplay ;)
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Thanks :) What I mean is: what are the roleplay reasons for locking an item onto a player\'s name? Why would only a certain player be able to use a certain item, magic aside? How do characters keep track of dueling points, and how would they exchange them for items? This is, after all, a roleplaying game where ultimately everything in-game must have a purpose (which is why many are against dueling points in the first place).

Well, the idea as described is rather useless, but there is some potential here.  If we had some sort of more advanced fame system, one could use their influences to purchase certain rare items.  Though, while this is an interesting concept, I don\'t really think we need it.

Bah, my browser just ate an entire post. Sigh, retype :) Fame in general is a really cool idea, and as I remember in a few past discussions, could be used to influence NPCs in just about anything - from their everyday responses to you, to prices on items, to open hostility when you enter a certain area. But if ever considered, this should be something apart from duel points.
