HOWTO get a pick and go mining:

- log into Planeshift
- select your preferred character
- wait until the game has loaded up fully, NEVER EVER start walking around earlier
- find the plaza of the city Hydlaa
- enter the plaza
- find some friendly folks hanging around there (the ones with green writings above their head, not the ones with the blue ones)
- wait politely until you see a possibility to enter the conversation without disturbing the ongoing one
- ask them in a friendly way where to get a pick and where to find some ore
- follow their instructions :P
Typing and grammatic errors may be safely ignored, they come without charge ...

you might want to kill some rats in the sewers first.  That way you can loot them for the hides and eyes to sell - then you can purchase your pick from Harnquest.  Then follow instructions as Rolf said and get someone to help you find ore deposits.  Or, search for them yourself ;)

a pick costs 100 tria, as for where to mine, you should have someone help you with that in game, as explaining it to where you can understand it would be nearly impossible

... and Harnquist has a book you can read about mining and where to look, at least for gold.  Of course you will need a compass to follow the directions in the book and then ...

Of it is much easier to ask in game, like everyone has said, it is a role playing game - so role play, you\'ll find it much more fun.

There are no maps and compasses in-game at the moment. Wait for the implementation of the cartography skill :)
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Hmm.. Well i was mining some gold and i was wondering, where can you smelt it? When i asked some players in game, they said its not available in the game yet, but i was looking at the screenshots on the main website and there i see what looks like an ingot. :\\ So i was wondering, can we, or can we not smelt ore into ingots?

All the necessary equipment is there, but not enabled yet. Expect it to be available soon(tm) ;)
