to make a program you are going to need to  know some prgramming language, unless you hire a team of chimps to program for you...

secondly what does this have to do with planeshift?
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

Even though there is RPG-making software (aka RPG Maker), I seriously doubt there\'s something that would allow you to make an online one without any programming knowledge.

I remember that there used to be this game for Dos called Quest or something which allowed you to make your own Hugo style RPGs.  But I don\'t think that\'s what you\'re looking for....

well first you need a dev team consisting of artists, programers, musicians, etc. Then you need a video game engine for ex. planeshift uses the crystal space engine then you (or your 3d modelor) will need a program to model the 3d objects such as 3ds max, maya, etc.  then a compiler will be needed for your programer such as visual c++, dev, etc. and ofcourse you will need a server for all your people to play online with. It may sound impposible but it can be done if you put your mind to it and be patient.

Yeah. So wait. You want to create a game with absolutely no programming knowledge whatsoever, and I assume you want a website to go with it, which you want to make with no html knowledge whatsoever.

XD If you want to PROGRAM a game, you have to learn a programming language to program it in.

The most complex thing I can make in C is a calculator simmilar to the windows one, ...,  and that only with some builder software like Borland Builder or C# express edition ...

Well the calculator isn\'t that hard, but hey if you want to make an RPG in C with no knowledge at all...ehh good luck.

Not only should you at least be familiar with HTML, proficient in C++ or a language of similar capability, have a thorough understanding of networking and the various tradeoffs that you have to make, you should understand version control, build systems, cross-platform issues, SQL, HCI, and artificial intelligence.

And then you have to be able to make a fun game, which is completely unrelated to the above factors.

Your best bet is to learn something like c++, as its an OOP which is really useful for game design, there are some great online tutorials (just google for \"c++ tutorial\") . Its not really that hard to learn - you can pick up all the basics within a couple of days, if you\'re good at that kind of stuff...

Then your best bet is to start off with a 2D game, given how you have 1 less dimension to work in, and it saves you the effort of diong 3D models.

So, you\'ll want a GUI so your programme won\'t just run in the background. Try SDL or something - I found SDL particularly easy to learn.

And yeh, thats about all there is to makin your first, simplest game. I imagine you\'ll be able to improve on it from there.

If you want to make it multiplayer, you will need alot of networking knowledge (sockets and stuff like that just doesn\'t come natually...).

And, yeh, basically have fun. I doubt you\'ll finish many of your first few games cos you\'ll get bored and want to move onto something more complex, but thats how you get better at programming and game design...

Now if you want to jump straight ahead to gamedeving then i won\'t be the one to stop you(you\'ll do that fine by yourself).
Professional game\'s primarily use a C like language. That be C or C++.

Now i put here the ultimate guide for you so you can in just 5 small steps become a great gamedeveloper!:
1. Pick up any book about C/C++
2. Start reading it
3. In a year or so when you feel you have a good grasp around this language start looking into technologies commonly used around games(OGL, D3D, SDL, SQL, AI, network)
4. When you know all the stuff you need start coding a game
5. Goto 4

OR, you could partition your harddrive for DOS, and find a copy of \"Quest\".  Of course, you\'ll need an old-fashioned A:/ to read the floppy disc, and I don\'t think it works with VGA or modern video cards. :-D

Are you implying that young people are incapable of making games or of understanding the requirements to make them?  :)
