It could happen to you.
« on: December 18, 2005, 07:45:29 pm »
I\'m really not sure where to put this post but here goes nothin.

On Saturday December 17 there was a server re-start. I was by the magic shop going over an RP with a few friends when we got the message.
As usual, I went to exit planeshift but I think the server shut down first.
When I logged back on, I saw nothing unusual until I went to see if NPCclient was back online. I got to the Rogue at the intersection and targeted him and went to cast energy arrow on him when my system window said I didn\'t have the skill to cast it. Thinking this was a glitch I hit my shortcut key again and lo and behold, there it was again so I opened my Stats window and when I clicked on the magic skills tab, I was shocked to see my skills were not 24 in Crystal way but 0.
OK, i can deal with this, It\'s just a glitch, I\'ll relog.
When I did though, the results had not changed. I logged off again and updated in recovery mode but this was useless also.
I reported this to Cerejha who said all they can do is report it.
I also discussed it with acraig and stfrn who told me there was no hope of regaining my skills.
My point being that I was robbed of all my skills I had worked so long to gain in the blink of an eye.
Be aware that this could happen to any one of you.
I\'m now working at regaining some of my former skills and it feels like I\'m back to square 1 all over again.
Without the support of my good friends in PS I might have just given up.
Why the gods have seen fit to take away my skills is indeed a mystery to me. I often wonder if I have done something to offend them.
I\'d like to thank Zorbels, Zog, Javeroal, Myysst, Alhana and the countless others who have volunteered help to Satayne.
It truly feels like family.

I guess I should say It can and will happen to you.

OK, the devs found out what it was. It seems that I use mouserun and was using it just before the re-start. The Devs say that mouserun is linked to my wipe somehow and I am not to use it anymore,...and I will not.
Word to the wise, mouserun is nice, but not worth losing skill over.

:D You are welcome and you deserved the help. It is a shame that you would have to work twice as hard as the rest of us to get your skills back. I am glad you stay with us and didn\'t let this misfortune make you give up. I live in fear now that one day I go to play my character that all could be lost. *sends hugs*
I've been outside, it's overrated and the graphics suck!

What a punch in the face!.  Still its times like this that you realise nothing is ever what it seems, and new friends (and enemys) are forged.  I owe alot to you Satayne, as well as the others.  Nothing will please me more than to continue aiding you and all my close PS friends wether Im friend or foe.

I remember losing a lot of crystals in MB, because of devs deciding to mess up with the sever on the time I was transfering them to a new character :P
After that I started giving away newly gathered crystals, even though I still hunted for that claymore...

I\'d be glad to help, but meh... computer issues :/

sorry to hear of your misfortune Satayne :(

Have had things change on me before but thankfully never that big. Hope the devs atleast know why it happened and can fix the bug.

It truly feels like family.

It is my understanding that GMs have the ability to set their own levels.

Therefore, you can easily have your skills restored, provided the powers that be are willing to go through ten minutes of trouble for you.

They simply make your character Satayne a GM, set the skill levels, and then demote him back to a mere player again...

All they need is your login, and password.

Hugs, sweetie.

[By the way, a method for the player to change their own password, is yet another basic function that is missing.  It should be rather trivial to code.]
The Devs have invited us to play in their sandbox. The GMs keep us from spoiling each other's fun.  Be respectful, and thank them often.

I had to comment on this.

again you presume too much.

firstly, you -can- change your password, i\'ve done it many a time from the main site, it\'s on the same page as \'create an account\' link, just frigin read the line.

and secondly, yes higher level GM\'s have the ability to set their levels, this is for testing weapons, health, mana, and various training levels. it\'s a bonus for the gm to have them simply to wield a fancy galkard.

no offense to satayne but like hell will freeze over any GM will give deputy status to some player who lost his skills so he can regain them.

if we started doing that it would be an unfair advantage and then to make it fair we have to max out everyone.

That is simply not true, I have worked on both and there is no connection between the two at all. Loosing your stats was simply a random glitch, nothing repeatable, and thusly nothing we can fix.
player -> gm -> dev -> bum

It just happened to me, but I look upon it not as something that is bad and worth complaining off...You see I rarely trained so my stats were very low for how long I\'d been playing.

Atleast now I have an excuse for being so weak :P :P
