no fees or anything... material. only your eternal and joyful servitude.

cause ps will own your soul.

oh. and he\'s drey, and he will be your new god.

but, the real catch is this. two words:
pre-alpha.

Oh for crying out loud, that\'s my line :[

Anyway, to clarify the last line; It doesn\'t mean it\'s free because it\'s pre-alpha. It means PS is a pre-alpha so don\'t get your hopes all the way up.

I\'d suggest you read the Player Guide, Settings, and some FAQs on the forum ;) PlaneShift is heavily centered around roleplay, so you will have to act as your character in the game - not as the player sitting behind the computer. There is no central storyline or plot, so your character will need his or her own goals and reasons for any action. There isn\'t a lot of content at the moment (currently only fighting and mining is implemented) but the aim is to make as realistic a world as possible, fishing, farming, crafting, etc., all included.

For now it\'s all about role-playing, really. Besides that most of the money you earn you get from monster-hunting. And then you can only spend money on developing your skills so that you can hunt stronger monsters. PS still has a long path to go through.

I\'ve been trying to figure out how to explain PS to most computer-game players.  I come from mostly a console games and FPS gaming background, and PS is the first MMORPG I\'ve really played.  So my opinion of it\'s a lot more generic than most...

In that, here\'s how I explain it to most people:  It\'s a completely free MMORPG that runs on windows, mac, AND linux.  That\'s rare.  It\'s a big reason I play the game, being a linux user that doesn\'t get to play a lot of MMO\'s.  The game itself is moderately based in role playing, but a LARGE portion of the PLAYERS are playing it to role play, and this game is HEAVILY controlled by the players.  The world is by, for, and all about the players.  You will run into people that don\'t role play, but from what I\'ve seen a lot of people that don\'t play to RP will RP when the time calls, myself included.  Right now, in game, the big things to do are go monster slaying, explore, and RP.  This actually is inviting for people like myself that don\'t want to RP much but do want something to do.  The biggest problem for me is when the NPC server is down, but that\'s a lot less frequent lately.

Ultimately I\'ve been recommending this game to a lot of people.  A couple have tried it and so far none are becoming regular players, but that\'s mostly because it\'s so hard to get over that first hill from \"...I can just kill rats?\" to really opening up what you can do.

No, the guide is just a fevered dream of what we\'re going to have, we only have mining and fighting as our current sources of income and exp.

So? Be happy with it. Keep yer heads on roleplaying, meeting people, working out your character...They\'re putting as much of their time in this game as they can, just for us and themselves, for our fun and enjoyment, so be happy. Building up income and exp huh? Well you know, soon(tm) there will be a wipe and you can start all over with that, so don\'t bother too much. PRE-ALPHA. We\'re nothing but mere testers who are given the right of getting to know eachother and roleplay...Oh yeah, and looking for bugs :D Not that hard, every couple of minutes you find one, but everyone\'s doing their best.

So be happy with it.

I believe the Player Guide is far more than that.

It was saying the player guide is nothing but show off with what PS is going to be in the future. Obviously it was wrong.

Either way, it commented only the first line of your post.

Imho we shouldn\'t be recommending/promoting the game for a long time to come. I\'ve learned over time that first impressions always count. So once you get these people who expect it to be as developed as WoW...the trouble starts.
They play it for an hour then they get bored, never to return.

So i think we should wait, keep PS exclusive to the people who care about RP and understand that its just the tip of the iceberg for PS.

You\'re forgetting that PlaneShift needs testers as much as roleplayers, Ecolem. This is the reason that we are in an open pre-alpha stage as opposed to something closed and exclusive - the community tests, finds bugs, submits fixes, etc. What you\'re suggesting kind of seems a mirror to the vision the dev team has. If someone doesn\'t like having to be a tester first and a player second, they can leave and we will not suffer tremendous losses. But closing the gates to everyone but those who are already adept roleplayers is unrealistic, especially at this stage.
