Jerky graphics (fine fps, just sometimes freezes for a second)
« on: December 30, 2005, 04:20:50 pm »
At first I thought little jerks in the graphics were part of playing an online game, but when I searched the forums nobody else seemed to have complained about it. My FPS runs fine at what must be atleast over 20fps (I can\'t see anywhere that tells me my fps on the Mac client) as everything looks pretty smooth, but occasionally (every few minutes or a few times a minute sometimes) the game freezes for a second. When it comes back my character is standing where they were when the freeze started, not where they would be if they carried on during the short freeze.
There\'s two things I think this could be, something to do with my system specs (which I\'m not sure it could be, considering my good frame rate the rest of the time). I\'m using an iBook with 1.33Ghz CPU and 768MB of RAM (256MB built in, 512MB DDR SDRAM) and a built in ATI Mobility Raedon 9200 with 32MB of VRAM (I know this is a little low).
The other thing I think this could be is temporary loss of connection to the server (which it may not be because nobody else complains of this as far as I can see). I have a broadband connection with 1152Kb/s downstream and 288Kb/s upstream which I connect to wirelessly. If this is the problem it may have something to do with port 7777 (which I\'ve done nothing about (I have a firewall on my computer and router)), but could not be because I connect to the game initially fine, or it could be some little connection issue between my 2 wireless base stations I go through to reach my router (range or something), in which case there\'s nothing asking here can do (I doubt it\'s this though as I don\'t seem to have problems with it in any other situation).

That\'s a whole load of stuff, and if anybody can support, quash or add to those theories and supply some sort of solution it\'ll be a great help.

     Thanks

That\'s annoying. So does that happen to everyone then? Also, is this something that the game can sort out in future releases, if it is about remembering textures and stuff?

Let\'s hope it is temporary annoyance. It came along after current version was released. Next update(s) should fix it. Be patient, this world is under heavy development :)

It\'s possible this has already been fixed in CVS- if nothing else crystalspace was updated, but there were changes to how labels were drawn. Those were not quite finished when the last update came out.
