Oof... I think reading The \"WHY\" rule stickied at the very top of this forum section would have been quite useful. Can you please provide more detail to explain your suggestion? I\'m having a very hard time deciphering it :) What special events, type what words, why would you need to change the colors, and most importantly, what purpose would this serve in a roleplaying game, where the aim is to make as realistic a world as possible?

I think I know what he means. He means that if somebody says something, the words appear not only in the chatbox but also above the head of the person.

Bad idea. It doesn\'t have a purpose in roleplaying. Tell me, hambobo, WHY oh why should planeshift be more like \"other games\". What\'s the purpose of that? It\'s unique, and I think the pluspart of this community would rather keep it that way.

I have no idea how improved communication would not server roleplaying. Because it is what you meant, or not?
In fact i don\'t know what we would gain and what loose with that feature. In game where i have seen it, it wasn\'t bad at all.

I actually think it would serve role-playing more than a chatbox :P

Like in a crowd it would be harder to read things. If you\'d talk with someone on the other side of a room, with few people talking between you, it wouldn\'t be too easy to talk ;)
And it would be a natural /say distance, where the words would be easily seen (heard) from close, and hard from far. Likewise, you wouldn\'t hear people talking behind walls and such :P

...Hmmh. Well in any other game I played that\'s got a system like this, it gets extremely disorderly. Imagine, once, if Planeshift is big, we\'ll have loads of people on Hydlaa Plaza, all talking...For instance, in Martial heroes, if there\'s a load of people in a village it\'s hardly possible to see who\'s saying what :)
And anyway, Draklar, it would only serve roleplaying if you take the chatbox away completely and have your only source of communication by text appearing above heads. The box is necessary I think, for system info, guild chats, party chats and so on so you can\'t take that away. So the text above heads (no listening to people on the other side of a wall and such) it wouldn\'t make a difference because the box is just something I think you can\'t take away...

Or am I wrong? :D

EDIT: Triple-As...After 3 and a half years...Well...I know it isn\'t about post count...But it makes me proud anyway :P

Then all you have to do is remove /say from the chatbox, keeping all the other functions in it :P

And like I said, troubles in communication in crowded places would do well for role-playing.
Besides, if Hydlaa plaza was that crowded, it would be harder to talk with someone close to you via chatbox, than via texts above head. Since former would just gather lots and lots of lines from various people, whilst the latter would remain quite clear.

Okay okay you\'re right :P

I will refrain from trying to prove my right now, since it is utterly and absolutely useless... :D but what happens then if you want to shout to someone? Like, I\'ve seen a roleplay going on in DR, and somebody ran of...The others shouted at him... It ain\'t possible for him to look at texties above their heads while he\'s running away isn\'t it?

Sorry couldn\'t help it :P

I only mentioned /say, not /shout. Shout should be seen despise the walls and such :P

But there is one argument against this idea, still. You don\'t hear what people behind your back say ;)

What, I\'m the one contra and you\'re the one pro, and still it\'s you coming up with the only argument AGAINST? :D I\'m baaad.

Well I don\'t directly see a solution to that problem...But I guess if everybody puts their mind on it, we\'ll come up with something :D

Draklar, Izzy, you seem to be discussing something different it seems ;)

hambobo: I haven\'t played Gunbound but I know a few other people here have, so maybe they can come in and clarify more. I fail to understand what \"collecting letters\" is. However, having anything besides the character and guild name above your avatar (and some would argue against even that) doesn\'t improve roleplay. If you win a match, the only way people should know is through word of mouth. Roleplay :)

Uhm is it just me or is this Hambobo pretty confusing? It goes from text above heads to winning matches and collecting letters whatever that may mean. So either Hambobo is:

1. Drunk
2. Stoned
3. Both
4. Deranged
5. Not able to express himself quite clearly, or at least not in a way that makes things understandable for us.

Uh... :D

It doesn\'t make much sense using your standards either.

Change color of what, then? Since that should be a separate wish :P
