Hello all
« on: December 31, 2005, 10:30:37 am »
Just a new player coming to the game....looks friggin sweet for a pre-alpha. Can\'t get my char to run though lol (dont know if he can\'t or what but I have tried everything). Still trying to figure it out a bit but it I like it so far. BTW is there an overhead map?

Forgive me but I am just a n00b.

Hiiii! :D Welcome to PlaneShift!

Your character can indeed run - usually by holding your left shift key and the up arrow. If this doesn\'t work, bring up your Options window (hit O or use the top menu) and look in the keyboard section. The run and walk animations are currently the same (will be taken care of as soon as... it\'ll be taken care of), but the speed definitely differs :)

Maps (particularly overhead/mini-maps) aren\'t going to be found in-game. There will be a cartography skill for players in the future however, that will allow them to create their own (and possibly share/sell to others). In the meantime, there have been a few zoomed-out screenshots of various areas on the forums that folks have used. You will have to search yourself (with the Search tool, of course) as they are not gathered in one place. Also, just so you\'re aware - \"spoiler\" maps, such as color-coded maps of sewers and similar locations, are not allowed to be publicly posted, so you might have to ask around elsewhere :) A really nice map of Hydlaa was posted some time ago in the Screenshots thread in General Discussion, I believe.

Other than that: Take a look at the Player Guide sometime, and browse through a few stickies found in the various forum sections. Some of the most useful stickies may include:

A short but helpful FAQ
Character Naming Policy - Must Read!
A Guide to Role-Playing

Try to before posting new threads, either for suggestions in the Wishlist section or bug reports in Technical Help, and remember, you can also use the in-game Help channel for any questions in the game world - an Advisor will try to help you ASAP.

I hope you stick around and have fun! :)
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

And welcome to Planeshift.

Have fun playing it and don\'t mind people who\'s nick rhymes with \'grey\' that will post about being your god.

Welcome to Planeshift!

Running is not working right now, you can only walk and walk faster :) Hold the Shift key to walk faster or press Shift+T.

We do not have any public maps. Explore the world and look for different places. Talk to people in game and ask for directions. Soon you will find out that the currently known world is not that large at all and you don\'t need any maps.

EDIT: Beaten by Draklar :) And now by Karyuu as well  8o

Well, I didint think about it before though but the map thing does make the game a helluva lot more realistic...and that is friggin awsome to be honest. I figured the running thing was kinda broke too but I just posted about it to be sure. Looking forward to seeing everyone in game!

Hmmmm..... Might as well put in my two cents :P. Hello Besic, welcome to Yliakum, you\'ll have lots of fun I\'m sure. I know I do. Planeshift is one of the best online RPGs I\'ve played, and it is very roleplay based and centered on community. You\'ll make tons of friends, and maybe some enemies, RP and otherwise. Many of the people here are open and friendly, so feel free ingame to just go up and ask someone a question. If they decide not to answer it, just ask someone else. I know that I answer a lot of questions, and I know a few others who will happily do so as well.
