Please keep the rubies

Hi folks,

I\'d like the rubies to become a permenent feature in PS but with one tiny mod. Value.

I think they should be worth something. Not much, perhaps 1 tria or so.

Why... because we know it\'s hard for newbies to get started. Especially if they want to RP a non-hunting charater. They can\'t mine without a pick and can\'t get one without money. At the moment there is little to do to get money, that doesn\'t require money, but hunt.

By giving rubies a small value we will help newbies get started but if we keep their value low people won\'t harvest them forever because other sources of income are more cost effective. e.g. you get rubies to get you first pick axe and then you go mining.

It could also help RPing and navigating is they are located in useful places such as outside the magic shop or in the dungeon.

What do you think.

In general: the rubies were a fun little something, probably meant to drown the older players in nostalgia and give the newer members something to squee about. If there is to be any value to them, their whole existence must be modified, for as dragonfire said, currently their \"growth\" is completely OOC. They should be mined, like diamonds. Until then, they will continue to be worthless.

It can be rather difficult for a new player to find some pocket tria at the moment, yes, but this is just version 0.3 for fire\'s sake :) There is so much more content in the works that will increase the ways to acquire currency. But breaking the RP by making crystals that miraculously grow in the grass worth something, isn\'t going to do it :>

The PS is magical, there are many ways to justify this.  To say that it\'s \"OOC\" is very narrow minded.  I think that crystals popping out of no where is great and entirely within the character of the game.



It\'s possible that there are crystals in the ground.  Every so often, one pokes out from underneath the earth, and becomes visible.  Sounds alright to me!




I think that they should pop up every so often, but only in RANDOM places!  Right now it\'s the same as it was in molecular blue, with set spawns that people camp.  I think that crystals, mushrooms, and other things like that should just appear randomly.  You should have to walk around a lot in search for them, or else your ownly chance to find one is by the sheer luck of stumbling upon one.



Now, their ~value~ should be something else entirely.  Once they become an ingredient in potion making or crafting, they will have a value to other players.  I\'m not sure what Harniquist would do with them though.

I wasn\'t suggesting that they poped up as if they grew in the grass. Sorry for not making it clear.

As for breaking the RP, well Zanzibar points out PS is a magical environment but that big an excuse isn\'t needed.

What I have in mind is more that they would occur near existing mining points but on the surface and not requiring any digging. Think of like the way that minerals and fossles can occur naturally in nature in the form of a vien at the surface.

I can think of two places in the U.k., the Peak District and Lyme Regis, where fossiles are exposed in loose rock and as the rains come they are washed out on to the surface. An easy find for anyone who looks.

It doesn\'t break the RP at all.


So come on folks. The devs have got enough tricky things to do, but basically they\'ve already done this one. Let\'s support an easy thing that will make a difference.
