Connection Issues
« on: January 04, 2006, 04:37:08 am »
Hey all,

I can start the clien fine, but i keep getting an error message saying,\"Server not running or unavailable\". Also, there is a little message beside the Server list that says Fail 100.
Also, the updater will not work, when I click \"Update\" it just closes the window, and I cannot ping the server.
Basically I can\'t talk to the server at all. My anti-virus is set to not block any connections, so that shouldn\'t be getting in the way.
I\'ve run out of ideas. Oh, and I\'m running Mac OS X 10.4.3, if that makes any difference.

Thanks,

Sunlas

Hiya!

First, if you are running a firewall or router, do be sure that you have UDP port 7777 open for server \"Laanx.\" If you aren\'t sure how to enable port forwarding with your firewall/router model, refer to the manufacturer\'s documentation (google will help!). It will also be helpful to check the \"Mac OSX\" section of the forum, and read a few of the important stickied threads :)

When activation is complete, start the game, type your email address in the \"username\" field, type your password in \"password\" field, and click \"Login.\" You will then be brought to character selection screen, and since you are new player, you will have to create a new character (simply click on the first empty slot).

You have downloaded and installed and updated the game client, right? :)

First of all, I got the game working, I checked the stickies, and downloaded the java updater, which got the game working. :D :))
Halios, about your problem, did you even download the game? If you did, in the Mac version(I\'m not sure what it\'s like in the Win version), open up the dmg, open planeshift 3d, and then open psclient. Oh, and you should run the updater first, the file is called updater.
I thought it was pretty simple, but, you did download the game... right? ?(

Download the game depending on your client. I seriously hope you checked that page of the website :) The procedure is standard for downloading and installing any application from the internet.

What operating system are you running? Have you installed the game, after downloading?

If you have downloaded and installed PS, you should know where you installed it to.
Here is a tutorial for dummies!

#1. Download the file!
At the Planeshift Main site, there is a section called Downloads. Click on it, then scroll down the page to the OS you\'re using.
OS, in this case, stands for Operating System. An example would be Linux, Windows, Macintosh.
Click on one of the two hyperlinks below the name of the OS you use, depending on whether you want to use BitTorrent or not. If that doesn\'t work, there are two additional mirrors, places you can download a file from when the main source is broken or offline.

#2. Installing!
Assuming that you have the Windoze installer, double-click the file to run it, installing PS to the directory of your choice. Remember where it\'s located, lest you forget!
If you\'re not using Windoze, then you\'re either using Linux or Mac, and the way to install it is slightly different.

#3. Updating!
In the directory that you\'ve installed it to, there should be something we like to call files and executables.
In your case, assuming that you\'re using XP or a similar setup, ignore everything in that folder except for psclient.exe and updater.exe
First things first: Run the updater. It\'ll take a while to update. If you have problems, have a look through the forums. Remember, the search button is your friend! :D

#4. Starting the game!
When the update is finished, you can run psclient.exe and start delving into the wonderful world of Planeshift.
Crazy am I. Not responsable for crazyness that ensues.

If he\'s using OS X, it is inside the planeshift folder, and is an unassuming little file called \"psclient.app\" which, by default looks like any other generic app file you\'ve ever seen in OS X (which do kind of look like text files).  I guess if you\'re expecting a shortcut to appear, or a big dragon icon or something, it could be confusing for a minute.

You\'d try looking at the IMPORTANT marked threads first, there are usual workarounds there, that for sure you haven\'t yet tried ;)

The error you report is pretty well known, and it\'s caused by sound. Simply disable it through Planeshift Setup (Start-all programs-planeshift-planeshift setup) You\'d be able to see \"Sound Options\" the last of them should be \"off\" tick it and relaunch the game.
NOTE: If you see cff instead of off you\'d probably need a driver update for your graphics card.

Sidenotes:
Search function is your friend, use it, specially since it really works well.

This thread isn\'t about issues with sounds, but with connection ones, you reached the server correctly, so replying in here isn\'t the place. :P

Im having the same problem and I also have looked a bunch of the stickied threads and yet no dice. My router shouldn\'t be a problem but even so I opened up ports 7777 to 27900. Still nothing different, any other suggestions?
Peace.
