Problem when "Loading World"
« on: January 06, 2006, 03:31:48 pm »
I have been facing a problem today with getting into the game. I select my character (Jarwen Zinn) and click \"Join Game.\" The loading screen appears, reaches to \"Loading World\" and the progress bar gets filled. After that, it just hangs up, and I\'m forced to terminate the process. I have had something similar happen a few times, but it was always solved on the second attempt - this time it still didn\'t work after 5 or so times. Any ideas what might\'ve caused it?

I\'ve read it already, of course. Point 3 - I doubt it has much to do with the hardware, since it worked before, and no changes to it were made. However, you have a point, so here it is:

OS: Windows XP Home SP2
CPU: Pentium M 1.6GHz
RAM: 512 MB
GFX Card: Useless built-in Intel Express /w 128MB shared VRAM.

As for point 5, I\'ve tried all that\'s listed except changing skins before posting. Tried changing skins now without any results.

Mmmm perhaps your problems are related to the graphic card. The fact that before was giving you some random problems, and now they\'re continued, I can\'t find a reason to; since I believe nothing has changed in the program to cause you that. Perhaps you took something else on your computer and I mean it with software, such a driver change?
Anyway, if you can\'t try another driver version for that card, perhaps you would like to wait till the next update is released, and retry if your problem is then solved.

It worked well yesterday, but no longer so today. No software has changed, so that\'s out. After a few more retries it worked now, but I\'d still like to know what might\'ve caused the problem, to avoid doing it again. I actually think that the cause is either the character state(wrong time/place to log off perhaps), or the server itself.

I am afraid the reason is your useless built-in Intel graphic card. It shares video memory with the normal RAM and 512 MB is the lower limit for Planeshift, especially when you do not have a recent NVIDIA or ATI graphic card.

Hm, I used to play planeshift with a built in SiS video card sharing my measly 512 ran, and planeshift ran fine. But then again I don\'t have any other ideas about what could be failing to load- you could check the last few lines of psclient.txt
player -> gm -> dev -> bum

Well, if it worked before, but now stopped working, I suggest deleting a few cfg files and see if that works.  (psclient.cfg and planeshift.cfg)

I have reached the end of my rope trying to get Planeshift to run. I have sucessfully installed the game wo any problems, created a character and tried login several times with different settings. Each time it gets the connection and begins to load the world, and yet right before the game finishes loading it says it encountered an unexpected error and has to close. The the psclient.exe says it has encountered an error and needs to close. I would really like to be able to play the game and have been unsucessful thus far.

Have you tried disabling sound, by any chance, or switching to another game skin?
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.
