Newbie impressions
« on: January 08, 2006, 11:41:00 pm »
Ok, I\'ve a few questions. Sorry if they repeat anything said already;

1. Do god/s have an effect in gameplay? for example, you follow bladida the merciful (example). He encourages kindness and compassion. Then you massacare everything you meet. Surely this is not looked apon kindly by bladida, so he/she punishes you in some way (In-character) like stripping you of your powers until you go to an alter and pray to redeem yourself, ect.

2. how big is PVP (player versus player)? Is there things like duels? (as  a IC thing. You have insulted my honor, sir, ect.) or all-out mass murder on the battlefield?

3. Racial prejuudice. are there racial tensions? eg dwarves distrust elves, ect.

4. This is for the developers; Are you the guys that were more motivated than us and finaly made D&D into a playable roleplaying game online rather than the mob hit-\'em-alls of everquest? :) If so this is what I\'ve been looking for for a long time...

Thanks! I\'ll start playing as soon as the download finishes!

Welcome Falzaek!

Glad you have joined our community here. Your questions are interesting:

1. No, at the present time the Gods play no part except in roleplaying. There are lost of discussions about the role of the gods in in Wish list (see the forums) - you might want to add something to the discussions here.

2. You can challenge another player to a duel - again there have been lots of discussions about how this should be done, but at the moment this is entirely up to you. read a person\'s description before challenging - this will give a hint as to how how successful you might be. Of course, people can decline your challenge.

The emphasis here is not pvp more on collaboration - but there are some who like pvp.

The touranaments are a good way of formalising pvp - there are a number of players organising these at the moment.

3. Racial tensions? I would say less than individual tensions, but there are some prejudices. The best way of testing these is to have conversations with whomever you meet  - I think you will find freindly and unfriendly in every race!

Arka :D

Hiya, and welcome to PlaneShift! :)

1. Your choice of religions/beliefs does not currently have any influence on anything. However, since choices for religions are available during the character creation process, they are likely to have certain influences in the future. No clue when ;)

2. PvP in-game is purely voluntary - a character offers a /challenge to another, and that other has the option of accepting or refusing. If you got a refusal, you must wait a minute before challenging again, else there will be penalties. When guilds enter wars with each other however (again with both parties accepting the challenge), the guild members are free to strike at each other without further individual /challenges. Dueling in crowded public places is generally frowned upon - but the Hydlaa Arena is perfect for such things, especially large dueling tournaments that have been held before, and will be held in the future.

3. There are no racial tensions in PlaneShift - all the races have been here long enough to learn how to get along, and most cities are multi-racial :) Individual tensions however, certainly exist.

Have fun PlaneShifting!

ok, so the racial thing\'s been sorted, this isn\'t a pvp centered whack-a-mole, and the game is still developing, meaning sujestions will be taken into acount for the future! sounds good...
only 9 minutes left!

*edit*

Oh, and what version is this?
And where are the majority of the players located? (RL)

Please avoid posting two or more successive posts before others have replied. Just edit your last post to add new information :) Thanks! --Karyuu

PlaneShift is currently on version 0.3.012, and for a map of player locations, check the Frappr group :)
