Banishment spells
« on: January 12, 2006, 07:41:59 am »
This is one for all those who wish to play evil, black mages with no respect for life (dundundunnnn)

How about a banishment spell? a very rare spell against characters without a need of a duel, that banishes the target to a very deep, dan, dark place in the Death Realm?

It would be incredibly hard to get the required glyphs (yes multiple!) a they would be scattered throughout the far reachers of the world (maybe the final key one in the DR itself, very apropriate). Possibly it would also require a strange, rarte material componant that needed to be made by the caster, enhanted and bound to the caser (think a similar process as the forging of the one ring. no this is not a rip-off, just an example of the time, effort and magical energy required to construct the catylist). To get some of the special parts for the material componant, the player would have to go out on very hard quests, but when he finaly found them, and made the material componant, found the glyphs, he could cast (insert suitably evil, malicious banishment-style name here)!

Theres a slight catch. After al lthat effort, there\'s a 15% chance it backfires. On you. You banish yourself. Thats right.

Why? you might ask? to allow players to roleplay genuinley evil characters. It\'s no point being an agent of darkness if you have to go up and ask a player\'s permision to cleve him in two!

Extension: after a sucessfull banishing, the caster could collect part of the banised player\'s soul. This could be assosiated to another quest requiring the player to do a favour for death, and collect a certin number of souls, or be punished for his evil deeds. (Death want\'s in on the evil action). And the slaying of sutch an evil character in an honorable duel could be used as a roleplay device. a very good one.

The whole point of the duel system is to avoid things like that. :|

but who heard of a truley evil person without honour, without compassion, challenging the people he wanted to kill to a duel? he (or she) would happily kill whoever they wanted in whatever fashion they wanted. It\'d make being an evil character fun, and a hero out to slay the person who killed his parents (or rid the world of evil) could possibly have a real oponant!

Extension: if the spell backfires, you loose all componants for the spell.

Like I said, the duel system is intended to prevent these things.....

If someone is attacking you, you\'re ~supposed~ to RP it.  In most cases, what that should mean is that you accept the challenge, knowing you\'re probably taking a trip to the death realm.  Of course, this pretty much never happens.

And then after you die, your friends or the local knights should run up and slay whoever it was that murdered you, and the murderer should RP it by accepting their challenges.  Of course, this pretty much never happens.

Your idea would just be worse though, because then people could kill eachother behind the protection of the duel system, where-as now, people have to be \"willing victims\".

ok, fair enough. So long as people roleplay it, it\'d work with the duel system. but I still like the idea of an evil banishment spell! Be great with some REALY special sound/visual effects, too.

Well, yeah.... something like

level one - injure at close distance

level two - injure at range

level three - kill at close distance

level four - kill at range

So  by that measure, you\'re just describing any level four spell.

yeah that would be good... you could cast the spell at the lower levels if you only had some of the required glyphs/materials, but with them all, Banishment at range! and it\'s not quite a kill, more a banishment tothe deepest hole in the DR. semi-eternal damnation.

You could also have special weapons that could do this on a rare hit! (something similar to a critical hit).

try this out:

\"Soul Rippers\"

a mysterious race once forged evil weapons that no-one now knows about, save story tales. In such tales, it is said that victims of these weapons sometimes had thier very essance stripped, banishing them to the darkest, deepest depths of the underworld...

Edit: and, like the spell, the weapons would have a chance to turn on ou, increased slowly with use.

\"what happened to nagsa, the evil mage?\"
\"His own greed for power consumed him, and his pell (or weapon) turned on him, banishing himself instead\"

I reckon this\'d be great for Rping purpses, and amusing If you acidentaly banished yourself :)
