umm ive been w8ing a while now for the server to restart doesnt it usually only take 5 mins or are they fixing or sumthin.

The server usually kicks itself back into working after a crash, but sometimes it may need a manual restart - and if no server admins are around for several hours, the server will be down for several hours. Usually, you will hear official news of updates a bit before they happen.
