progression points

i was wondering about progression points are they here to stay or will they eventually be gone.
i wondered this because its terribly annoying having to go and buy stats with money and it is also a bit strange because when in real life would you buy stats or knowledge youd have to learn it yourself. like in most of the games i have played whateva skill you are doing you get  levels in that skill. you could be getting the PPS from fighting but spending them on mining wich is a bit wierd. i used to play a game called eternal lands and they has this thing where if u go up a level you get this sort of point u can spend to get special abilities like not loosing items when u die or mining double amouts ect...

so is Progression points here to stay or will eventually there be something else.

Well... The outlook would seem to be that they are here to stay, but there have been some discussion about them before.

White Slyaer  Tell me about the game you named.  I am interested in special abilities, ie double mining, power attacks, increaced looting/distance on spells, etc...

well if im not aloud to post here if not just delete this but

the game is called eternal lands fairly good graphics
round 300 people on 24/7 fairly good quest system better than ours lol made by a small team like planeshift started but a husband and wife lol.
ummm its got guilds mostly runescape but bit better graphics its small download 20mb so u should check it out.
also the abilities ill try to reacall them played few monsts ago till i found planeshift
double harvesting (all round collecting items eg mining picking flowers), not loose items when die, double health regain, and a few others and there were bad ones where u get the bad thing and u get the points to spend on bad ones when u go up a lvl u get one of these points btw
