want to gamble?
« on: January 25, 2006, 03:50:58 am »
Now i have a few problems.....

Should Gambling be legal in Yliakum? if you\'d ask me, i\'d not hesitate one second and say \"YES!\" But as in every tricky business, there need to be some rules.

In my crew, for the tournaments i have a bookie. This guy is not there to abuse my tournaments, but to help me fund the next one. So please do not eyeball him as if though he is a rogue or something. he\'s ok, and helps to entertain you all....

Then next thing is this; What in the world is a 23746 sided dice? I think, when rolling dices, we should narrow it down to a few dices only....

the 2-sided one[a coin]
the 6-sided one[your avarage dice]
the 20-sided one[the yliakum dice]

Please give your oppinion on this matter....

/me mumbles \"PFHE! a 126345 sided dice.....
yours, the entertainer

I\'m all for limiting the sides of dice in-game :) It\'s been a silly situation ever since the command was implemented, I think. Everyone rolling a 1-sided die and giggling at the results, heheh. I think the choices you suggested are great.

Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

An eight-sided dice exists in reality and will be just fine :) Anything that just isn\'t possible however will have to go at some point, I think..

Well just because gambling is illegal in Real Life doesn\'t mean it can\'t be legal in PS. Personally I vote for a yes make it legal.

*waves to Proglin\'s bookie*

I am glad Karyuu is going to limit the dice. I think it is silly to be able to roll a 2364321 sided dice. Doesn\'t seem very realistic at all.

Proglin wheeeeeeeeeen are you going to open up shop for gambling anyway....... you know roll a 4 and get a pony. O.o Zorbels wants to play!!!! :P

Actually, it might be kind of neat if gambling were made illegal in Yliakium, but not in Planeshift.  Imagine a seedy underbelly of gamblers having to hide in basements and dingy inns to avoid being seen...Personally, I think this would make it a lot more fun.
Yliakum, a really big crystal. These are the voyages of the Explorers Guild.  Its ongoing mission: to explore strange new maps, to seek out new life and new NPCs.  To boldly glitch where no one has glitched before.

I agree with that as well Ralas. I think it would be awesome to sit in a basement hidden from the world having an under ground game. Would be fun....... only to be able to get in by special inventation. So the player knows it is there but they have to get invitied by a member.

My brain hurts trying to imagine a one-sided die.  And wouldn\'t a two-sided die technically be a \'coin\'?

If you ever want some examples of some gambling games, contact me in game.  I can go over a few with you.

One sided die would be pointless, and two sided die would be a coin.  Not too confusing.

Just because a 2364321 sided die doesn\'t exsist in reality doesn\'t mean one can\'t make a game out of it.

It would be easy to modify most games into a dice format.  I can think of a dozen other games that would be easy to modify for dice.

Examples:

You could even play D&D inside PS if you really wanted to spend that much time with it.

You could play yahtzee in PS.  Only problem would be keeping score.

A one-sided die is a ball.

Get 36 sided dice and you can even play roulette, just have to make sure you know which numbers are black and which are red.

I do like the idea of making gambling semi-illegal, except in special locations. There could be some type of casino or guilds that are allowed to host gambling games but for everyone else it would be illegal to organise them. That doesn\'t mean it can\'t happen, just that the guards better not find out when and where it does.

Of course the stakes in the legal versions would probably be a lot milder than in the illegal ones. *imagines people gambling with their lives*

In another thread we were talking about these very things.

Planeshift forums ? Gameplay ? In-Game Roleplay Events ? PlaneShift\'s first Gambling Game

There are probally many more people who doing the same thing right now, perhaps we can get it a little organised and offer a broad scale of entertainment arround the clock.

About the dice, i would not limit it to a few. Like Zan said, with 36 you can play roulette. And with more numbers and some creativity, might result in great new games. Although i must agree 12345, might be a little mutch. (imagion this dice, it would seem almost perfect round, would be huge in diameter for practical reasons and consist perhaps out of the same amount of polygons as Yliakum itself, just a thought :D)

I believe a one sided dice, while not terribly practical is called either a sphere or a ball, hope this bit of nonsense helps :-)
