Printable Manual?
« on: January 26, 2006, 05:07:26 pm »
first of all, Hi everyone!

Im following this game since.....2 years? not sure, and its impressive how the people from this forum are so friendly and gentle, seriously, i dind\'t find that in any comercial game (actually im playing WOW), and i played almost everything :P.

Well, about the title of that thread, just say that i like to read manuals, tutorials, etc.. always in paper, and when i was going to print the Planeshift manual i saw theres just a web-manual, without (or just i didnt find it :P) printable version. Im right or im just too lazy to find it? hehe.

Thx to all for that communty-feeling and for your time and help ^_^

*blinks at the signature and blushes* Hi! o.o

You are right, there is only a web-manual at this time - and a printable version may be a good idea (PDF?). The Player Guide needs to be updated some already, so perhaps the next time someone digs into its depths.. :)

Glad to read that :D

That?s right, pdf will be the best choice, it will not be a problem to read it for any user, indenpendently they use macOS, linux or Win. Maybe i\'ll post it on Wish list thread, should i?

PD: i love your drawing :)

I\'m honestly not sure any more about how well the Wishlist catches the eyes of the team, but since this is a good suggestion and pretty much belongs there anyway, I\'ll simply move the thread.

Why would you ever need to print it out?...  It\'s mostly something you read a bit of in the beginning, and look up something from once in a while.  If you need it more than that, I\'d say the real problem is that the game isn\'t intuitive enough.  (and, there should be more in the in-game help)  Eventually we\'ll add some tutorial stuff, which should be a great help.

I think due to the volatile nature of development anything done in print would soon be out of date for each update/patch.  Even the online stuff is sometimes hard to keep up to date.

You are right acraig, now im thinking about it and its not the best to make a full-manual printable file, due to its continuous modifications, but maybe a begginers manual could be a nice idea.
Im talking about a file with just the story, races, religions, a commands reference, etc.. or something like. And it could be illustrated by the pics form the Fan art forum :)

I know that the information in this \"quick-reference manual\" culd be outdated soon, but the main info will stay for a long time.

Thxx to all and regards :)

PD: Sorry for my crappy english :P

It took me 30 minutes to copy-paste Chapter 3 Setting and Background into a text document and convert into a printable PDF manual.

Would it be a violation of the Planeshift Content License if I make the PDF manual available for downloading?

It would be nice to be able to print it to make it portable, and also to make it accessible ingame. I can convert it to a readible PDF tonight if need be, but it seems the current guide needs updating and I\'m not sure I know enough about everything to be the one to do that.

Well, even tho the game is constantly changing, so you\'d have to update your pages, you could just printout the pages you need from your browser, or you could highlight the text, copy, and paste into text editor or wp, then print them.

I like the linking options of the online one. I also noticed (in another thread) that there is supposedly a manual or guide file in the windows package, but it is not in the mac package.
