Theme for Linux Forum.
« on: January 28, 2006, 01:50:28 am »
This is a forum related question regarding the \'Linux\', section.

I just wonder why the theme for the Linux section, is different from all other parts of the forum.

This may seem a trivial and insignificant question, and indeed it isn\'t all that important from a functionality or technical viewpoint.

It just seems however that \'Linux\', is not quite \'in\' with the rest of the community.

Cheers.

There\'s an entire theme like that for the rest of the forum, though you have to choose it under your Options (from your Profile control panel). I find it more attractive, personally :)

Though, for functionality\'s sake, all forum sections should generally act the same, I agree.

I think that when I created this forum it asked me for the default style and I selected the dark brown one as the default which is different from the default forum one I believe.  One of these days the forums will get a make over if somebody wants to take the time :)

This is an old problem ;-) There have been \"complaints\" filed already and since then nothing as changed (months and months ago).

I really hope it will get fixed this time :-)

Hi

Personally I\'m using the default one, mainly because it\'s default. But also because the brown one has some black font that\'s hard to read against dark background. I do think that the brown looks more PlaneShiftish, as it matches PS homepage colours better.

I also find it quite amusing that the styles have almost opposite background colors. The other is light while other is dark. The other is blue, while other is brown(red/orange). Makes fixed colour fonts/images hard to use, as they always look mediochre in the other style. eg. the server status text.

Maybe the community can think up a new colour theme? >.> I imagine it wouldn\'t be too difficult, mainly just picking/matching colours and converting them to rgb hex code.

*edits*

Here are few example styles. (Sorry for being wide.)

1. Royal
2. Yeti default
3. Bamboo medium
4. Rocky path
5. Ice glaciers
6. Desert wind
7. Wood on stone
8. Deep safari
9. Gold mine

Bye.

The brown theme matches the main site colors better because it uses the color palette I made for a theme that was supposed to blend in with the main site. Acraig asked me for the colors to use :P

I\'ve been messing around with that forum theme for a while, and just for the sheer fun (heh, \"fun\" :\\ ) of it, I\'ve wrangled the thing into something mildly pleasing to look at. Acraig seems firmly opposed to a switch from WBB to phpBB2, so there doesn\'t seem to be much of a chance of this getting added to the official forums any time soon.

Check it out: http://www.ps-mc.com/skintest/

All the good images came from the PlaneShift project and are copyrighted to Luca Pancallo (or is it Atomic Blue Inc. now?)

The icons (post reply and suchlike) are from the the subSilver GDK, I modified them to fit the color scheme.

Hello

Looks pretty good from artist\'s point of view. I love the person who did the logo. That is art. ;) There\'s some black text in the very bottom and the subSilver icons could use some smoothing up, but that\'s all I can think of. Hmm, maybe the width is somewhat small in my 1024x768, compared to current layout.

Well, in the end I don\'t know about the differences between WBB and phpBB2, so best leave it to those who do. :)

In my opinion, phpBB is far superior to WBB due to it\'s complete freeness and ridiculous customizability and mod-ability. However, switching over would be a pain and phpBB would require a fair bit of effort to setup and maintain (people find ways to hack it and though patches are released, they need to be applied which takes time). I doubt the devs have time to setup and maintain such a system, in addition to switching over from the current setup.
