Regarding Magic .....
« on: February 05, 2006, 06:56:55 pm »
I have read the player guides, and searched the forums for more information on magic, but to no avail. I have been trying various things in-game but I am not sure what is and what isn\'t implemented at this stage.

I have a few questions .....

1. I have chosen to learn the Red way of magic hoping to make ingots of the ores I am mining. I currently have lvl 4 and can use the fire spell. By Increasing my level do I get more spells or just make this 1 stonger ? The info on the spell tells me it fires \"10 x P\" .. what is the \"P\" please ? Has the ability to make ingots been implemented in-game yet ?

2. I have various glyphs, and I was under the impression that by combining these on the spells page, they would make new spells. I am more than happy to test all the different combinations if I know I am on the right track and combining glyphs has been implemented.

3. On the glyphs combination page, I am aware there is 1 area for each glyph, but each glyph area has room for more than 1 of each glyph. Do I need to purchase more of the same glyph for different combinations of spells ?

I would appreciate any help, hints or tips  anyone can give me. Thaning you in advice.

  • Increasing your skill in a Way makes theirs spells stronger, and gives you the ability to use more spells.   However, I don\'t think there are any glyphs with a skill minimum that have been released yet.  The \'P\' is from a cryptic system which is being redesigned.  Basically, it gets stronger with skill, but not really as much as one would hope.  I think ingots are on Laanx now, but that has nothing to do with magic.
  • There are a few combinations that are already available, but the glyphs needed are obtained via quests.
  • You can obtain as many glyphs as you want, but only one is needed per person.  Sell your surplus to a merchant or another player.

Thankyou for the reply DaveG, I\'m happier knowing that my understanding is somewhere near.

My digression to making Ingots came from the fact that I notice Iron and Coal are mineable (guessing steel and that smelting is Fire related), and also the fact that Blacksmithing is mentioned with the Red Way of magic.
Pure supposition on my part at the moment I know.

Now that you have mentioned the glyphs from the quests, are they a different type or the same type with different attributes ? i.e. I may end up with two glyphs from the Red Way in my glyph storage which look identical ?

Do you know if the Quests these glyphs come from are working ok at the moment ? I have a few days off this week and it would be great to chase a few down.

There are many glyphs for each way, atleast 7 for each way are planed out now, and more could be added later. For example, Fire is a glyph of the red way already available, while Lighting is a red way glyph that is planned for but not fully implimented. In theory if you had both of these glyphs you could try to combine thenm to make a powerful Red way spell. Keep in mind that only glyphs of the same way can be combined, as the powers needed to combine glyphs of different ways are beyond current mortals.

Crafting, of which smelting is a part, has been in process for a while now. It will be available as soon as possible, however fixing current bugs thakes time away from adding new bugs. I mean features.

You will not need magic to smelt, and infact the effect of magic on crafting might be beyond mortal spellcasters as well.

Oh, and glyphs that are available now from quests and NPCs should be perfectly usable.
