Should we talk about price setting for weapons?
« on: February 06, 2006, 06:47:53 am »
The loss of fire, frosty, dark, scortched, and icy weapons is a huge change to the player economy.  As of right now, I\'m pretty clueless - and my characters are much poorer, having lost several dozen items due to the bug fix.

I applaud the devs because I think this will make things much more interesting.  In the interest of maintaining the player economy, I think it would be a good idea to talk a little about how much weapons are worth.

For instance:

Ornated weapons?
Silver, Platinum, and Gold weapons?
Iron and Steel weapons?
Other?

Few notes about the weapons wipe:

The fire, frost etc... are still present in game as possible modifiers, meaning that monster will still generate those weapons.

What has been done is to delete all weapons that were bugged: all weapons with base damage >10. Since those weapons were generated by bugs and have been removed by devs, you lost something you should not have.

Those weapon had incredible price (so can be sold and really ruin the economy) and incredible damages. In general weapon base damages should range from 1-10.

About giving an annoucement that was not possible, otherwise everyone would have sold the weapons before the wipe generating millions of tria of bad economy. So we preferred to delete them right away.

We are aware that the economy is not in good shape, and that many people have millions of trias, but it\'s surely better to have 10 players with wrong money than 2000.

If the most a weapon can get is around slash 10, then does that mean that a fire broadsword was maybe 5.4 times more powerful than it should have been?  Does that mean that Iron weapons are only 50% more powerful instead of 8 times more powerful?  I\'m not exactly sure what\'s different now.

Are all weapons capped at 10?

This would make daggers 10/1.4 = 7.14 more powerful than swords 10/2 = 5.0 more powerful than axes.  This seems like a balance issue, especially for people who train in axe which according to the description is supposed to deal out more damage.  Hopefully daggers are capped at 7 and axes at whatever gives a 5/1 slash/speed ratio. (I don\'t know axe speed off the top of my head).
