2 problems

1. In character creation, I don\'t understand how to use the right hand controls on the first window-only the one that says light brown or w/e will change anything. Also,

2. When I press the \"Join Game\" button, I go to a loading screen, and in the final stages of loading, a window pops up that says *_

I don\'t understand the first question, but the second one means that there is something wrong with your client, it crashed unexpectidly. See if you can reinstall PlaneShift, or maybe just try to get a GM to move you to a different spot so you can logon, because sometimes the map won\'t be loaded, and it\'ll crash you...I think. =/

Tried turning the sound off yet using the planeshift setup application?

I turned sound off and got further than before, but same thing happened, now at 00CFFC41.

I switched to 800x600 resolution and it\'s launching but it\'s really laggy. I propably have to get a new video card...

Yes, the CrystalSpace engine is a bit of a memory/video card beast.  However that is getting better all the time so not too concerned about it.  Using things like the adaptive camera can help out there as well.

In answer to the first part of your question, a lot of the characters only have one or two personalizable traits implemented.  For example, hair and face color but nothing else.  Actually mostly just hair color.   Everything else looks like a placeholder for future development.
