Q on ring of familiar

Hi, sorry if this has been asked to death, but i couldn\'t find much on this exactly.

I obtained the ring of familiar through trade. I can\'t do anything with it. I get a message saying \'Could not find Familiar GEM\'.

Is there something i am missing? I have tried /pet dismiss - your familiar has already returned to the netherworld.

/pet name - gets the error message.

The familiars are attached to the character, not the ring.  The ring is just a totem to control it.  (which is just the way it\'s handled in the code, but makes perfect sense in-game, too)  So, you must complete the quest to get a pet, and trading the ring does nothing.

okay thankyou for explaining that to me. One more question then, would a GM be able to generate the pet for me - that is \'attach a familiar\' to my character? Or is this beyond their scope, or something they wouldn\'t do?

It\'s beyond their abilities at the moment, and also something they wouldn\'t do ;) The Ring of Familiar quest is borked at the moment as well, so your pet will have to wait just a bit longer... :)

I have four gold rings which can be turned into rings of familiar.  If the gold ring is the part of the quest which is bugged, try to buy a gold ring instead.
