Dance Party!
« on: February 19, 2006, 02:21:53 pm »
People could make music, and send it in to the makers of Planeshift(after voting for the best one maybe?) and they could make it legible to put in the game, and for that whole day that music would be playing in Hydlaa(or even just Hydlaa center). You could make music with a computer program, with youself playing, any of that.\'
What do you think?

I see some problems with that:
You cannot find music everyone will like. This is no problem for me if i can do my usual work without having to hear it, so you would need a smaller area than Hydlaa Plaza.
And much worse: Any kind of music the players would like to hear on a dance party will probably not be very Medieval like, so you either have music that you do not think it is great, or you have music that damages the roleplay-factor (or both).
And the same music all day long also would not be so great after some time anymore.

First of all, this doesn\'t exactly seem to be roleplay. Second of all, it\'s more of a wish than an event proposition (and it certainly isn\'t a recounting of something that occurred in-game). Therefore, iMove to the Wish List forum.

Where would the music be coming from?  (Soundsource?)

I could do come up with some sort of traditional sounding \"Alba\" Song and put it on guitar and saz with maybe some wind instruments and period-esque percussion.  The alternative would be midi, which I really don\'t care for unless it\'s done really well, Planeshift\'s music being an example of good synthesized music.

The problem though is I think at least one person will do club music with medieval instruments, other things...... if you come up with something then I\'d be into listening to it of course.

Would it be possible to have it in one room? If so,then it could be put inside the tavern. As for what type of music,is it possible to have different choices, such as making two or three songs with something everyone will like? I\'m up for anything really....point where to go and I\'m there.

This is part of the problem.... there\'s background music in the tavern, but no band.... the music for planeshift is coded in midi I think (??? I don\'t really know, someone want to shed some light?).... and how many people here are actually familiar with period styles and instrumentation?

It\'s .ogg, actually :> Midis are a pain.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

If you want your Windows Media Player to play the ogg files then try this download:

http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/

Just hit the \"Download Now\" then run it, it will integrate automatically with the player.  Then you can go into the PlaneShift game files and listen to music and effects.
