Nolthrir model implementation
« on: February 19, 2006, 05:13:11 pm »
So I\'ve been hunting around the forums for quite a while now and haven\'t seen anything like this, so here it goes...

Any idea on when the Nolthrir model will be implemented? Just a ballpark time or even specific date would be great, or even a relative date would be good :)

PS: I know it\'ll be done \'soon\' was just curious if you could be a little more precise ;)

Shouldn\'t you post this in Wish List?

I think it will take one or two more wipes to get it implanted. Crafting and new glyphs will be done first I think...

Hi

Basically what it takes for Nolthrir model to be implemented is that somebody goes down there and creates it. For free. :) I know I don\'t posess the skill to do it. If you know somebody who does and is willing, please do guide this person towards us. Nolthrir race info. I want to see them in-game too. :)

*ahem*

What the devs mean to say is that it won\'t be done until someone does it, but since PS is a long term project, everything that happens is infact happening in a short period of time, all considering.  Thus the \"soon\".

There is more in balance of when as well:
It does not take just a person who can and does it, the person and their work must be accepted \"to the team\"
Then there is the issue of the game being in alpha testing--which raises the question of how necessary it is to implement full animagraphs, or just use the simple ones they have \"for testing purposes\" (eventually the fully animated graphics would have to be tested, but....)

Still, Karyuu says \"soon\" (hopefully that also means that we are soon close to a fully playable game)

Well, it would only be an issue if they replace the skeleton system *again*.

Cherppow, so if one was to make a Nolthrir model would it just be the model that has to be made, or would it need to be skinned and fully animated?

The more you can do, the better of course - but all models need to be modeled, skinned, and animated in the end. If you\'re planning on submitting a model though, it would be best to do once you\'ve talked to Talad and received a few test tasks (thus applying to the team), so that you don\'t goof up somehow and make some things incompatible with both the game mechanics and the setting somehow.. :)

Hi

To clint8565: Aye, like Karyuu said, the more the better. Still even just a model would be a good start.

To Gripen: Well, If one is able to model, texture and animate a character and is willing to contribute, I doubt joining the team will be a problem. About the question about animations, yes, we could implement non/basic animated characters, but that would severely weaken the roleplay experience in-game. This is why we\'re using the other, already animated, race models to fill in the missing ones.

To Waylander: Actually... ;) Our Sun is thought to be below the Chandrasekhar limit; not quite massive enough to explode as supernova. Instead in 4-5 billion years it\'s estimated to burn out it\'s hydrogen, and collapse until hot enough to fuse helium. Thus becoming a more or less unstable red giant. The star will eventually push* out it\'s outer layers, creating a stellar nebula. In the center of the nebula remains the star\'s core, now reduced into a slowly dimming white dwarf. In the end, the star\'s dying core cools until it no longer emits any light at all, becoming a black dwarf. (~Hammerwielder :)

*in much more peaceful manner than in case of supernova.

I would be more concerned of supernova explosions of our neighboring stars, eg. the red supergiant Betelgeuze, which some predict will explode in the next 1000 years or so. Luckily it\'s over 400 ly from here.

Nice to see someone else knows their stellar physics ;)
