Houlen's Beginnings - Chapter One

\"How did this happen...? Why am I here...? Who am I...?\" The young Demorian asked himself these questions many times. He was just a single child, who\'s parents had passed away soon after his birth. He did not know his name, nor did he know where he was, or how he got to be in this world. All he knew, was that he would have to find food, else starve and die in this harsh world we call Yliakum. He looked quite appealing, once he grew older he could perhaps be one of the most charismatic Demorian in Hydlaa. He had long red hair, which fell down to the bottom of his neck. A few strands of hair hung in front of his bright green eyes. He was quite tall, but his body was very scrawny. He was wearing a leather jacket, with a simple brown shirt underneath. He wore blue pants that had been torn in the right knee. His shoes were completely worn, and would probably rot away in a few days. If he could eat, and change his clothes, he would be a very cute Demorian, but that would not happen soon, so he needed to strive to survive until then.

The child found a tavern nearby, and thought that there could be food inside. There was, but he was not allowed to have any, for he did not have enough money to pay for it. He began to cry, wishing that he had someone to take care of him, but he did not, and he soon learned to face that fact. Days passed, the Demorian was still alone. He had found an apple tree near the Laanx Temple. His face brightened as he ate, it was the first time he had eaten anything in a long time, but it raised a few questions in his mind. How did I survive this long without food? Did I exist before this? If I did, then...was someone taking care of me? He continued eating while thinking of these things. His memories were gone, but if he did have a family, then who were they? If he did live somewhere before, where was it? So many questions, but no answers. A clacker crawled over to the child, looking hungry. He looked at the apple, then to the creature, and offered it a few of the apples that were still on the tree. The clacker paused for a moment, then looked at the Demorian. It did not want apples, but it wanted something else...

He quickly knew that this creature may kill him, and he took a handful of apples and ran, the clacker following close behind. He screamed, and dropped the apples in fear. He tried to gather them back up, but the clacker had already jumped at him, the pinchers opening up about to take a bite of the Demorian. He quickly extended his hand, hoping that something would happen, but nothing did. The clacker\'s pinchers closed on his hand, but did not go through the skin. He let out another scream, tears falling from his eyes, he was in great pain, but nothing would save him from it. The poisonous pinchers began to infect the child\'s arm, which made him feel dizzy, and he soon fainted. The clacker let go of the Demorian\'s hand, and crawled away in a hurry to go somewhere. He stayed there on the ground for days, the blood oozing from his hand was beginning to turn green from the huge dose of poison. It eventually dried, but the Demorian was still lying on the ground unconscious.

The child began to have dreams while he was unconscious, dreams of his past life. He was in a well-decorated house, the wall was painted with what looked like flowers, and there was a woman sitting cups on a table. She smiled at him, and began to speak.

\"Would you like some tea, Houlen?\" She said to him in a very elegant voice. The cups were steaming, but the smell was very nice to his nose. He walked up to the table, about to grab a cup, but burnt his hand when he touched it. The woman giggled. \"You have to wait for it to cool down, first.\"

The Demorian opened his eyes, looking around, wondering what had happened. He remembered being attacked my a clacker, but...what did he just see? He wondered about what the woman had said to him, and who that woman was. That girl...who was she? The child thought. She said something...Houlen...is that my name? Did I know her before...? Things were beginning to make sense. What he had just seen were his childhood memories, when he was even younger than he was now. He began to smile, knowing that he really did have someone to care for him...but, where is she now? Houlen quickly turned sad upon thinking that, he wanted to know what had happened to her...or what had happened to him.

Houlen finally came to reality. The area he was in now was nothing like the place he had passed out in. There were vast hills of trees and grass, instead of the cold Hydlaa pavement. There was a herd of tefusang below the hill he was lying on, and there were trepor on the other side. Houlen began to panic. This place was scary to him, he had already wanted to go back to Hydlaa, so he could look for the woman in his dream. One of the tefusang had looked up on the hill where Houlen was, and began to run up to him, looking hungry...
