Question to the Devs
« on: February 24, 2006, 11:59:50 am »
Heya, found this game a few weeks ago but unfortunetly beeing a heavy Roleplayer I\'ve yet to be able to get into it. The reason is the lack of player moddels (as something like 60%-70% of the basic moddels are still missing) and it\'s a bit hard to RP properly when a moddel is being used for 4 diferant races!! 8o ((Not to criticise but this is likely the reason why you have so few RPers playing ATM. True RP depends heavily on the characters responce to the world and other characters, and if you cannot tell one race from the other it\'s basicly impossible))

However I would still like to keep an eye on this as it shows a lot of promise. I was just wondering if theres a basic version timeline that you hope to have all the basic race moddels in? (IE you\'re at 0.3 now, do you expect them in by 0.5? 0.6? Etc.)

Check a thread recently made about the Nolthrir model, here :) Basically, the models will be implemented nearly as soon as they are created - and it\'s hard to estimate when this will occur.

As for us having \'few\' RPers..? Not as many as we would like, yes, but hardly few ;) And I doubt the models have much to do with it.

Hi

Indeed, we\'re a bit short on the race models. We know they\'re important models to have, but unfortunately they\'re also among the most difficult models to create.

Currently you can use the examine function to check out exactly what race a character represents. That often gives interesting additional info. :) Especially in case of players. Can also try asking.

You can roleplay that not all races are so easily identifyable from each other. At least not from a distance. *points towards the dwarves* *runs from a joint dwarven mob*

I think it\'s safe enough to say PS won\'t reach version 1.0 until it has all the race models in place.

I might have to respectfully disagree with you there.  Everyone knows that Stonebreakers are slightly shorter, but a lot stronger and much better-looking.  :D

*joins Cherppow and runs from the Hammerwielder mob.*

Now that you mention it, I can see it, too, though the diffenrence is very... small. :P
*/me thinks that this obviously ambiguous statement is enough to join the two who already run for cover*

Anyways, I don\'t think that the race models have top priority for the devs at the moment. But if you are good at modelling (and maybe even can texture a bit) this would probably be enough to join the team and create the needed models, if you like. Of course, they still would need to be animated as well, but even a long journey starts with a small step. ;)

Knowledge is power, if you know how to apply it.

Great, now I have to explain why I burst out laughing at my campus library xD

Right now people often \"pretend-roleplay\" when they don\'t have something - when they need their characters to hold an item in their hands but can\'t see that happening visually, when animations are missing, when everyone looks the same due to a single skin, etc. But we make do :) It\'s not the greatest RP environment, but I doubt that this makes RPing \"basically impossible,\" as stated in the first post. Folks roleplayed in Atomic Blue. People roleplay in MUDs. PlaneShift just makes it easier to do so through time and updates.

Well I\'ll be keeping an eye on this.. Perhaps after some of the worst repetitions are fixed I\'ll have another go. I think even I can forgive a couple of moddels doing double duty, but some are being used for about 4 races *shakes head* and (for me at least) that\'s a bit much.

Keep up the good work!
