Can't start game

Whenever I try to start the program, the MS DOS window pops up, then the above appears. Any ideas?

The more detail you give us, the better of course. I presume you downloaded the .013 client from bittorrent and installed successfully. Any more detail you can give us, especially about your system specs, just in case?

I downloaded the game a few days ago, and sucessfully got into the game. I (accidently) uninstalled and then reinstalled. I can\'t even start the updater. Whenever i try to start anything PS program, I get this:

We\'ve updated to client version 0.3.013 just today - so if you are still using 0.3.012, that won\'t do any longer. The new client can be downloaded through BitTorrent from the Downloads page on the main website, and mirrors will be available soon to grab the install file normally.

I am brand new and trying to begin my adventure in your world.

Having problems with logging in and getting started.  I attempt to login and the startup page reports \"Server failed\".  I have gone to the fragnetics website and the time is correct and it reports there are 58 users online.  I have downloaded the newest version of PS, and have just updated.  After the update, I sent a ping to the server-report of \'server didn\'t respond\'.  I have looked through the forums to find an answer on my own, but to no avail have resorted to requesting help from those who have the knowledge, such as yourselves.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Could you do a trace route to laanx.fragnetics.com?
That is, just like you did the ping but using tracert command instead of ping one.
See if it gets stopped at a certain point, mainly concentrate in this thing: Does the packet leave your intranet? If not, probably you\'re experiencing some problem with your firewall configuration (PS needs port 7777 open, so configure your software firewall in case that\'s the problem)

I tried that and it just continues to read \"Request timed out\".

I attempted to check and make sure that port 7777 is open, but I was unable to find where I would do that.

well it would be interesting to know where the time out happened. Obviously it was going to time out since the ping didn\'t work either, but with the tracert, you can keep a track of the data you sent.
That is, you\'ll see numbers that represent the different steps that the data has went through.
The important thing to know is if it has been able to \"exit\" your local network or not.

As for the 7777 port: It\'s hard to answer, since you\'re the one that is supposed to know what you\'ve on your local network. I think that a router configured as default shouldn\'t cause the problems, they\'ve mapped outgoing ports by default. Normally the problems come due to a personal software firewall installed on your system.
Norton Firewall, ZoneAlarm, Outpost are some of those.
You\'d check wether you\'ve a software firewall installed or not.

The quick thing to do would be disable them, and then try to launch the game, and, if succeeded, then close the game again, since the problem was localized.
Reached that step, most of the firewalls come with a sort of \"wizard mode\" that should allow easy to use configuration for inet requests. You\'d choose that mode, and try to setup the firewall whenever it claims that planeshift has requested a port to be opened and traffic to be sent through it.

I completely shut down my firewall and the game came up.  Do I need to have the wall completely off to logon in the future?

The answer is \"no\".

Ideally, you\'d try to configure your software firewall.
How to do that? There are too many vendors out there, but I guess that, like I tried to say in my previous post, every firewall has some sort of \"wizard mode policy\" that can help you to configure the firewall.

I don\'t have a software firewall myself, but if your software doesn\'t have that wizard mode that prompts you to create new rules whenever unknown connections are attempted, the firewall for sure has to have a mode to add new rules to it.

Again, I haven\'t that myself, but I guess something like this should be more or less what you\'ll find and you\'d be able to create the rule:

Application: psclient.exe
Remote host: laanx.fragnetics.com
Remote port: 7777
Direction: Both UDP (I think that way it\'ll work for sure)
Policy: Allow connection

I hope that makes sense to you. If not, you\'d provide us what your software firewall name is, so we\'re able to direct you to wherever they can help you to configure it or try to help you again ourselves, but without the name we can only give generic advices.

Ah! One last thing, when reading this, please don\'t answer inmediately my firewall is \"name_of_firewall\", but instead please, try to figure out if you\'re able to create those rules, if you\'ve or not that \"wizard\" mode etc. Knowing how to configure your firewall is a thing that, sooner or later, you\'d know to do.

End note, glad that you now can play, the objective now is that you\'re able to play but still with the firewall on.

I investigated my firewall and fixed/solved my problem prior to receiving an answer to my question.  I was attempting to avoid Kilrem from wasting time responding.  I will know now to edit my post.
