EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION: CPU feature dependend build?
« on: February 25, 2006, 11:30:36 am »
The new build 0.3.013 does not start on my PC anymore; to be more exact: The OpenGL GUI window opens, it is still black - before the \"Intro\" background screen is drawn, the client crashes. And \"illeal instruction\" sounds to me like SSE code not supported by my AMD Duron-800 \"Spitfire\".
Code: [Select]

Yes, this build was compiled with SSE support. I think we\'ll have to disable SSE if it\'s causing problems with a lot of people.

Try using this tool to unlock SSE on your processor. Some do support it but have it locked for some reason.

Thanks Xordon,

Looks as if that would work fine on an Athlon XP.  I hope I am not out of luck having a T-Bird CPU...

Hi,
if you are experiencing problems like the ones noted above, please try this package. Substitute the exe files with the ones you have in the PS dir. Remember that updater will try to put the former ones back.

PS0.3.013_noSSE2.zip

Same here - another exception followed. Are the CS libs SSE-builds as well?

My machine specs.

AMD Athlon 1 GHz
512 MB Ram
GEForce 2

Yeah, old I know but it matches the posted minimum specs for the game.

I\'m seeing the same crash described above when running either psclient.exe or the updater. I tried the noSSE binaries linked above but I see no change.

Any suggestions?
