PS 0.3.013 fails to start.
« on: February 25, 2006, 06:01:12 pm »
First system specs:

AMD Athlon XP
NVidia Gf 6600
Gentoo Linux
512 MB RAM
glibc 2.3.5

I installed the newest binary client and just finished updating.

Now when trying pssetup it fails with an access violation after lots of rcystalspace \"ALERTS\" about an unknown command \"Include\". The last output before the access violation is
Code: [Select]

Mounting skin: /planeshift/art/apps.zip
Skipping \'YesNo\' because it\'s already loaded

When trying to run psclient I also get bunch of crystalspace errors and then the following output:
Code: [Select]

planeshift.application.client:
  PlaneShift Crystal Blue
This game uses Crystal Space Engine created by Jorrit and others
  0.99 r0 [Unix-x86-GCC]
  No iSoundManager plugin!
  Failed to init app!

I hope you can make something out of it.

[edit]
switching off my music player or starting the apps as root didn\'t change anything, so I suppose it\'s neither a permission nor a soundcard-blocking issue.

I forgot something:
I ran the updater before with the --auto-switch, but when trying to connect to the server it said I\'m not running the correct version of PS, although it was version 0.3.013. Thereafter I ran the updater again in normal mode where it downloaded a whole load of stuff, and since then I can\'t launch PS.

OK, I seem not to be the only Linux-user with this problem. If this is Linux-specific, please move it there.

Previously the server was down, it\'s been going up and down since the new release. Also this might have something to do with it:

You can get 0.3.013 from our download section. Please DO NOT RUN updater for now because the mirrors still have 0.3.012 version up.

from the news on the main website

 :P

Perhaps if you reinstall from the download it will work - I don\'t know i\'m still waiting for the mac release

[edit] server is up again i think [/edit]

http://www.psmirror.org/psupdater/win32/libz-cs.dll
http://www.psmirror.org/psupdater/win32/vfs.dll

I too was having that same error when running the updater.
I guess it is because it isn\'t updating itself correctly, or something weird with it.
Try to install those two files in your planeshift directory.
They did the trick to me, so now I can launch the game.
As a price, I don\'t know why, but the updater fails to start anymore, so please, beware what you do.

I\'d recommend not using the updater, since something seems to be going wrong. Thanks Benish for pointing it out, and I hope that works for you, the same it worked for me.

To bad the site seams to be down, rathre small files, can you host them? Or mail them to me?

Did find them here:
http://www.planeshift.it/download/temp/vfs.dll
and
http://www.crystalspace3d.org/support/win32/cs-win32libs-0.99r0_018.exe

But still doesnt work for me:-(

I had already started to download the client before the files were on the updater so I\'ll just wait for that to finish downloading...

edit: the updater seems to work fine now, if it doesn\'t work after the first patch, try up to 10 more times, if it still doesn\'t work after all that try the two files listed earlier, if it still doesn\'t work pm me and I can send you the exe via msn...

edit #2: I\'d wait till the next client before getting planeshift, this one is even glitchier than 0.3.12! This client was a waste of time!

You really need to learn some patience when dealing with these things.  This release happened two seconds ago, and the update servers seem to hate us.  I assure you 0.3.013 has fixed more bugs than I can count.  The update servers are not updating the updaters, and it\'s borking the installs.  For now, just go with the normal package install.

Would be nice to have it running since Im on OS x \"normaly\".

If you\'re trying to get it working by updating an old install, read this:

The \"EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0000005E\" is not a linux specific problem.  I have it with windows.  Replacing the files only gives me a \"application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b)\" error instead.

EDIT: I\'m running on a 2.8GHz P4 with WinXP SP2

EDIT2:  Awesome!!  I just tried to update on a different computer and got an identical error.  Both are essentially the same computer--same CPU capabilities, both NVidia cards, everything.  Main diff is that one is a laptop, the other is not.  Both have fully updated drivers.

Also, unless there is a mirror to get the clean install app from, I can\'t get it.  Network blocks BitTorrent.

EDIT3:  Missed that last post there, sorry about that.

Hi Annon:

Please try the advice DaveG is giving in the post above yours, that should provide you with the new version of the updater.

I too had the same problem (aka message error) as you and Benish (see again upper posts) and I managed to get ingame downloading this 2 files and overwriting the ones that were in the planeshift directory.
http://www.psmirror.org/psupdater/win32/libz-cs.dll
http://www.psmirror.org/psupdater/win32/vfs.dll

And don\'t worry I\'m on windows too, and I think Benish was too.
The updating process has something weird going on, things will be looked into, but, theoretically with those two files you\'d be able to launch the game.
