Segmentation Fault on Install
« on: February 26, 2006, 08:18:35 am »
I just downloaded the latest client (PlaneShift_CBV0.3.013.i686.bin) via BitTorrent.  When I execute the file, the Plane Shift symbol appears in the middle of the screen for about a second and then disappears, then I get a very nice \"Segmentation fault\" error on the console.

I\'m running Mandriva 2005 LE  for x86.

I also noticed that after the Plane Shift symbol disappears, for about a half second a small window appears and then disappears, and then I get the error on the console.  After running it many, many times I was able to see that the title of the window that gets created is \"Language Selection\".

Hi.

Try to change installer mode (it uses gtk interface by default). First try:

./PlaneShift_CBV0.3.013.i686.bin --mode xwindow

If that has the same effect try:

./PlaneShift_CBV0.3.013.i686.bin --mode text

BTW: avoid double posting, if no one answers your question just edit your previous post. Karyuu does not visit Linux forum very often, but legends say, that sometimes she eats firstborn of poster violating the forum rules ;)

Thanks, using the --mode xwindow did the trick.

And I didn\'t intend to double post, sorry.  I simply wanted to add more information to the post that I thought might be useful.  It didn\'t bump the post or anything... it was already at the top.  Thanks again :).

Don\'t be sorry, I\'m not angry (to be honest I see nothing wrong in multiple-posting :P), my intention was saving your firstborn :D and preventing your deleted posts counter from increasing.
