Um... yes. Shadow, have you read the thread? I mean, wild question.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Reading the thread I think there is one simple rule that is different from roleplaying a good person. This is make sure the other knows it\'s RP.

I mean seen some people complain about people not getting it\'s only RP, but sometimes I think being evil is only an exuse to be annoying. Make sure you are really roleplaying the evil facets of your character and have a clear line to where the RP stops.

Also have a RP reason to do evil acts. Few people act evil in RL just to be evil in the end. They do it becuase they feel it would benefit them or becuase they enjoy it.

Why do you say i have not read the thread?

When i said if we are not aloud to be a bad guy then my guy is stuffed.  I ment like i cant be a bad guy if a lot of people think i\'m just trying to be annoying.

Oh  and shorty13 can you spell spam?

No one said you can\'t be a bad guy - they\'re just offering tips on how to make sure people perceive you as an IC bad guy and not some annoying git that wants to use the RP excuse to be a bother :P

Being evil--with a rp warning
« Reply #21 on: March 01, 2006, 04:16:20 am »
Okay, that\'s it.  I wasn\'t going to reply to this thread, because most people \"trying\" to be evil are really just stupid.

Antisocial is not evil--it is selfish; evil people are selfish, but usually quite socially adept.  Social ineptness is just offensive, not evil.

Then there are the \"bad guys\" who want to be evil, but evil is a completely different schema from bad behavior, or breaking laws.

There is openly evil, and there is deceitfully evil.  There is your character playing evil, and you as a player being evil.  (The latter is not recommended in this thread, and may lead to some form of retribution from the game and other gamers.)

Evil is also a matter of perspective: both Saddam and Bush are evil--to very, very, very many people, and for the same reasons.

Example:  You are asked for directions.
Openly evil, extreme:  \"I am evil, of evil, by evil, and for evil! You ingratuitous fool! Duel me or lose your soul!\" (Are they confused?) use \"[want to duel me]\" If they say yes, then do your worst, to send them to dr.
Not openly evil:  \"Is there some reason I should care--about YOU!\"

So, if one must ask the difference between evil and bad, then one should refrain from trying to be evil.  You will just be stupid.

I have some experience at this as one of my Characters is evil and let me tell you, It is very easy to get people to hate your character and very hard to get them to understand that YOU are not evil, your Character is.
Also let me tell you that (for me) it is not easy to play my evil character as I am not the mean and evil type, I mean that it\'s hard for me to be true to my evil character so if I have a day where I know I can\'t do it, I won\'t even play him or I\'ll end up doing something nice for someone and totally ruining said Char\'s rep.
Karyuu gave some good advice when she said to send a /tell to your intended victim, I have done this on occasion when I thought it was necessary but this does not always work as there are some players who have a hard time with the whole concept of IC and OOC and cannot tell the difference. There is some good advice in this thread, take it all in and good luck to you.
And by the way, be careful who you cross, it may just be me ;)

The whole problem is that people see no difference between IC and OOC (like they\'ve just logged off RuneScape (hate that game)) and think those who useth not l33t-sp34k are all holier-than-thou brazen snobs. We need to enforce RP to the MAX if any of this is to be expected to work. People need to be expecting RP, not be amazed by it. Once RP is the rule, not the exception, they will understand.

My two trias in.

But of course, none of my characters are evil, and evil shall be slain.

i just realised that you can send /me commands over tell, so i could do something like

/tell /me seems like an evil character, your gut feeling tells you to be wary

That would help to start with.

Then i can be a little bit more openly evil

and eventually people will know my evil character as evil

\"most people \"trying\" to be evil are really just stupid\"

I know i\'m taking a risk of you calling me a moron or idiot by replying to your post. But are you calling me stupid?

My guy is the type of evil guy that helps people out(if its to his own gain.) and also likes to keep to him self. And if you dear cross him he will not think twice about cutting out your heart.

He is not the \"rude\" type of evil. Rude is just rude not evil lol.

For the purpose of sanity can we not get technical on all the terms associated with evil i.e. evil, bad, selfish, rude, unlawlful, deceitful, etc. For the sake of sanity in this forum just dumb evil down to \'not nice\'.

When i wrote this topic i had the intent of creating a morally-bankrupt outcaste who only cares for himself.

Gripen, while your view is respectable, your statement

is a rather sweaping generalisation and probably refers to only a select group of \'yahoos\' you couldn\'t care less about characterisation or RPing and seek pleasure in stylelessly making an ass and pain in the neck of them selves. [cite] fool running around and without saying anything challenges everyone he meets to a duel [/cite] - this is just annyoing.

To show how i might use my \'evil\' character ingame and quite possibly tell everyone my little bit of RP in advance. I intend on getting a weapon with a name the same as guild (way of the hammer, the warriors, the protectors, etc.) and then getting the guild leaders to tell their newer characters that has stolen so on so, hunt him and kill him return the so on so weapon for a small reward, possiby donated by me (also potentially an entry test).

Theft is bad/evil and so that would add to my characters evilness. Then there are the numerous other things stated in this thread on how to be IC RPing evil such as accidental drop thefts (and not just running away, clearly stating the theft as a snatch and run case).

In short, there are evil people in RL, and so it should also make sense that you have evil peeple ingame and that not all of them will make it to the level of stalin, hitler, sadam, or bush. So the sweaping generalisations that you make about the player behind the evil character really aren\'t all that fair.

you evil person you ;) :P

(just kidding to be extra clear :D )

There are \"good\" characters who would steal or be mean....

There are \"evil\" characters who would be kind, charismatic, charitable.....
