Azureus 4 BitTorrent on mac
« on: March 03, 2006, 09:08:46 pm »
chaos posted a link to azureus in a bit torrent thread, here is another just for mac.--it is a Java ap.
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php

***For OSX 10.2.8 use the older version (2.2) and do not update it to the newer 2.4 version.  The 2.3 and the 2.4 will not run on osx10.2, and if you update then your torrent will be lost.***

BUT AT LEAST IT WORKS ON OSX10.2.8, and it works very well and easy to get started.

Just have to get the .torrent file from the laanx download page.

+++Now a question: When I fresh downloaded Azureus because updating screwed it up, I had to redo the torrent thing to get a seed--much slower today--but I already have the dmg; I wanted to seed it.  Any ideas so the \"swarm\" doesn\'t have to wait for me to download again?

Not sure about Azureus but with the standard bittorrent client, when it prompts you for a location to save the file you\'re downloading, you can click the existing file and it will \"resume the download\", i.e. check it for integrity and start seeding.

It is already downloaded--i was full seeding last night when I was \"scraped\" (by fragnetics I believe) and all activity seized.

Today all rates were like 2 or 3 up and down, so I updated (bad thing) and lost the seeding torrent in my azureus ap, but I already have it--I could play ps right now, but that would jam the swarm i guess, and I am learning azureus in more det.

Just wondered if knew of way to make the completed download into a seed.

Everything i\'ve seen talks about moving it after it is turned into a seed, but the complete one was with the other azureus that I had to remove to download a new one of the old version.

I\'m downloading again, guess the swarm will have to wait?

***edit: NEVERMIND all speed went back to normal and the file is finished downloading and is currently seeding at 40 to 50 kbs.

Hi there,

I\'m running MacOS 10.2.8 and the standard Bittorrent didn\'t work for me (it wouldn\'t open). Azureus 2.2 is downloading the 0.3.013 torrent for me right now. Thanks Gripen for the info. :)

Glad it worked for you--to bad someone did something to keep the client from working for us.  Let me know if you discover a fix for the client issue.

Also let me know if you happen to accidently update the Azureus version and it still work for.  The other versions of Azureus wouldn\'t work for me so I assumed it was the MacOS (crooked os version update conspirators--that seems to be the only problems I have with this mac since they finally fixed all the bugs.  Even hard to get it to work hard enough for the fan to come on.)

***I guess you might call me a fan of Azureus now, but they also have a verry good wiki to explain how to use and improve the azureus plugin.  It was verry easy to get started (without reading any instructions) and then reading their wiki was very easy to follow for how to improve the speeds--download and upload.***

Sounds like there may be a problem with the swarm, or your isp.--apparently your connection to peers and seeds is getting disconnected, or your connection to the internet.**if it were just slowed--called choking--that could be corrected.

Unfortunately, as I understand it, the dmg on the torrent is screwed for 10.2.8--and we must wait until it is available on the mirrors for the corrected version.

[Anyone know if the torrent file has been updated for the correct mac psclient to run universally or not?] Doubtful.

when i try to use the torrent the connection error is saying connection refused. i am useing 2.2 to download a few things now and its moving at 128-190KB/sec so the connection isnt whats wrong. man i do hope that OS X 10.2.8 will still be supported cause i cant run OS X tiger cause it for some reason dont mount ant disk\'s but it is way faster than OS X 10.2.8 in almost everything but OS X 10.2.8 behaves its self
