md5 signature on BitTorrent file does not match
« on: March 04, 2006, 07:54:06 pm »
Is the md5 signature on the www.planeshift.it/download.html site correct?

I\'ve acquired the Mac version via PlaneShift_CBV0.3.013.m.torrent, and the signature on the downloaded file does not match that on the server.

I am considering the possiblity that the signature file on the download page has not been updated.

Until I know for certain, I won\'t launch it, and will keep BitTorrent from uploading my copy.

Cheers

It looks like the website has not been updated.  The correct MD5 checksum for Planeshift CB v. 0.3.013 is:

5c69929af1ce97aedb09b3d3ecfa71ed

I suspect the given md5 hash is for version 11.

I\'m no MD5 xpert, but that can\'t be good.  Could this be why files were mixed in the swarm, and if it happened on mac did it also happen with the swindows .torrent file? (Files didn\'t get so mixed in the swarm, but I heard that there are different ones--\"may not\" be able to use 10.2.

How do I check the md5 to make sure I get right files (of course, this won\'t help me much \'cause some cl...um, body inserted an os version update conspiracy file).

See this link for information on MD5 (devs might want to know this--but I assume they already do know).

I don\'t think any files got mixed up in the swarm, it\'s just that version info on some things was not updated, and OS 10.2 does not have a file that the current compile unnecessarily depends on.

Oh, I thought MD5 was the hash that controls the quality checks and such to make sure that the bits in the torrents are all correct ones--so that no hacks are introduced during the swarm.
