Which of these two colleges should I attend?

-Like i said before, It\'s a \"College\".

In the states, aren\'t colleges like universities?  What is this bad?



-My parents don\'t like the idea of me going there, they\'re trying to shove me into SBU. But then again, who cares what they think...

Why don\'t they like the idea?


-I\'ll miss my not-yet-in-college (and, wasn\'t-able-to-graduate-from-school) friends.

You\'ll meet new friends in university, and you\'ll be really busy with studying first year anyway.


-They don\'t allow you to have a car on campus during your freshman year. Not like I have a car yet, but you know, just saying...

You won\'t need a car.  Walk everywhere, and take a bus to any place you can\'t walk to.


-The campus is not isolated from the local community. Not that the communitis are bad or anything (they are prety good actualy), I just don\'t want a bunch of middleschoolers running around my campus!

I can see why it might be a nuisance, but college kids can be just as annoying sometimes.


-Not sure how strong they are in their CS department... I\'ll know more when I visit, but I still have doubts...

This is an important and valid concern.  If it doesn\'t have the program you want, then I\'m not sure why you would consider it an option.


-Not possible to attain anything past Bachelors Degree in CS. As of now at least.

Can\'t you go to grad school at another college after getting your undergrad?

Universities are much bigger, and almost always have a football team. Everybody knows about University of Oregon, but not everybody\'s heard of Portland Community College.


To answer your question: Whichever one will enroll you. If both of them wish to enroll you (which would mean you make Einstein look like a gibbering idiot) then check the class lists, and go to the one that best fits your planned employment path.

I personally would recommend Stony Brook, because the other one has a stupid name and because it has a better CS program. If you want a CS career, you want a good CS degree.

As for your parents being control freaks, even a little freedom can help if you\'re not using it irresponsibly (because then they\'ll freak out more).  I\'d see it as an opportunity to prove and develop your independence - as long as you\'re out of the house and paying for yourself, you\'re your own man.  Now just don\'t be a fool about it
