Tournaments

Ok, so, yea....yet another idea from Kiern

Well, I\'m not sure if this is planned yet....and if it is, good

Anyways, I was thinking that once someone earns enough money they can go to the nearest arena and have the option to host a tournament, he can choose for it to be private or open

In private, he invites his close friends/guilds/whatever and a message appears in the chat window (wherever it may be) or in mail that you have been invited to a tournament on a certain date and time (in-game time?) which is set up by the host...then they meet at a specfied place and have a tournament (see below open for tournament suggestions)

In open, every player in the nearest city/arena (unless a certain city is wanted) will receive the invitation and it will be held

Now for tournament suggestions:
*There could be a regular PvP tournament where it\'s FFA
*If it\'s guild-based tourny it could be guild v guild
*If it is private certain teams can be specified
*Magic Only
*Long-Range Only
*Melee Only

ya......that\'s it  :D

I think this is an excellent idea.  I vote for implementing this as part of the arena thing.  We will need a similar mechanism for GMs to run tournaments anyway, so we can extend it a little to let players run them themselves.

It would also be nice to allow open tourneys to charge entry fees which go into the pot for the winners, so if a guy thinks he is the strongest one, he can start out the pot with $1000 to get people to challenge him, and then charge $50 entry fees to challengers.

Way to go Kiern. :-)

What the hell would we do without the romans?  I say we also allow random captured monsters to be faught against as well, might be a bit interesting. ;)
~Ragnarok~
Three ice ages will fall upon the world, known as the Fimbulvetr. The time will arrive and the cocks will crow. The fire giants led by Surt will come out of Muspelheim. Naglfar, the ship made out of dead men\'s nails, will carry the frost giants to the battlefield, Vigrid....

I think that there should be entertainers on the arena as well. Like musicans, acrobats etc.
You could also have different classes like..

*Newbie class  - For newbies who thinks they are strong  :)). This is not often \"battle to death\". More like: fight until the other player surrender or lose consciousness (Which I think should be a feature) uses time-limit.

*Mage class  - This is fun until the arena explodes  :D .
Only for magicians. No weapons allowed, only magic.
One-on-one. This don\'t have to be a battle-to-death.
Uses time-limit.

*weapon class  - This is just for fighters. No magic allowed, only weapons.
This is a more dangerous class, so the chance to survive isn\'t very big.
Uses timelimit.

*Hand-to-hand class-  This is for martial artists who prefers to use their own bodys as weapons.
No weapons nor magic. The winner is the one who knocks the other player to the ground, then a countdown begins (until 10).

*Pro class - Where players usually fights. This is for fighters, mages and martial artists.
However the players must be near the same level to fight each other.
Battle to death (or until you lose consciousness), or until the time runs out.

Grand Battle Championchip class  - This is for everybody.
Every class, every level, all races.
Battle to death, no clock, no countdown. If you lose this competition you lose all your stuff.
This competition have only one rule. To kill the other guy before he kills you.

I made up the names, so feel free to come up with another names. :]

Fanomatic2000 one problem.  Differences between the classes.  A mage who loses all his equipment is still a force to deal with (spells) yet a warrior who loses all his equipment might very well lose his entire investment is equipment and ability to do damage.

It could be an option, but would require some kind of warning!   Possibly you lose less the better you finish.  Does the winner recieve all/most of the goodies?

My thought would be it would be set up by the host of what your going to lose/gain and how much of it and it would show that on the invitation, except money would probably not have a set amount since it would probably depend on the # of people who come

So if it is a magic, they\'d probably gain a magical item or each contestant puts in a magic item under certain requirments (that\'d work for any other types of tournaments)  and its either set up as winner gets all or their divided among the top winners or something
