super slow download
« on: March 08, 2006, 08:40:24 am »
hmm, sorry to annoy you all again with my stupid questions, but im downloading v.013 via BitTorrent and it\'s downloading at 3kb per sec, i have a normal 500kb/sec broadband onnection and i was wondering if it normally is so slow (28 hrs remaining?
This is probably a stupid question, but im not quite willing to tie up my computer & internet for 28 hrs for a game. i searched all this forum for anyone with the same prob but couldn\'t find any answers....

hi

ive got the same problem ,try to get it since three days but....
i think its because of not so many players use a mac and so there are not enough
people at the same time online ,from who we could download....

its only an idea cause im not so good in such things, if its wrong and someone could explain i would be glad to know.

may be its possible to make something like an appointment with mac users, who have it already , to be online...
when i ve got it i would ,of course, do it too and so on
(excuse my english)

greetings ronya

I\'ve been seeding the torrent continuously since I downloaded it last week. Only time I wasn\'t online was earlier today someone shut my iBook while I was at work, putting it to sleep. X(

It sounds though like we don\'t have enough people to sustain an efficient Bittorrent distribution yet, hopefully we\'ll have the .dmg files up on the mirrors and binaries in the updaters soon.

I still see 126 Seeds and 148 Peers in the Swarm, and i\'m sure they didn\'t just pop up a minute ago....

There are currently 159 seeds and 208 peers for me. So the swarm is definitely still alive. I\'m getting around 100 kb/sec, actually; quite speedy. I\'m using Azureus, so I suggest you try that. Otherwise, you\'ll just have to wait for dfryer.

With Azureus (which I highly recommend to mac users) it shows seeds and peers in separate columns as a number followed by a number within parenthesis:
1(126)  2(59)

The first number is the number of remotes you are connected to (uless labeled \'L\' on another monitor) and the number in the () is the total number in the swarm.

If you are done downloading then the seed numbers change to 0(127).  The peer numbers and upload speed change according to the peer connections you have.

You should read the thread regarding Azureus.  For 10.2.8 you must use Azureus 2.2 (their oldest available plug in).  They also have a nice wiki for guidance.

I\'m going to leave my copy of Azureus running with Planeshift for a while...I\'m on a cable modem connection so hopefully will help a bit.
